I feel the same about gamertags, on xbox.
It is weird to be in red dead online, where I just have a name I made up, but every other player I see is “DEATHSAVIOR237y8934343834973” or something.
The other thing I don’t get about that game is:
It has you pick a “Nickname” for that character, on the Xbox red dead online, but everyone still just sees your gamertag name? I find that odd. Like the name I picked for my asian female was “Pookie”, but everyone sees my gamertag name as her name instead? Weird.

I rather use alt char on a name that i prefer, than no alt char on a random name i just made up.
it’s an unfortunate consequence of unique naming system.
and DEATHSAVIOR237y8934343834973 is pretty bad. but still better than TimmyONeill. you can probably tell this kid is 9yold and is probably named Timmy.

The servers are so old that a lot of names are taken so some people gotta improvise. It’s not their fault. Surnames would help a lot with this

I liked how D3 allowed you to have any name. It is attached to your Bnet tag. You really are warrior#5123, but it hides it.

Wellp… I mean I enjoy using my real name (Carlo) as my character/aliases online because it’s pretty unique. So when it’s taken (which it is on most realms), I improvise an throw in an alt code.
One ALT code is fine, its when people name their character something like Ðêàthßrïñgër is when it goes a tad overboard.
