Already have an authenticator - can't get 4 extra bag slots?

I tried setting up a new authenticator, but it won’t allow me, saying I already have one (which I do, a physical keychain one). So…am I not allowed to get 4 extra bag slots b/c I already have an authenticator?

You also need to have sms protect enabled, but if you have both, there are threads where it might be affected by the login issues.

thanks for the reply. I’ve only ever activated the keychain, afaik. I DL’d the app on my phone, tried to add mobile authenticator, got the code emailed to me, then input the serial # and temporary authentication # from the app. But then it states I already have an authenticator. Does that mean I DO have mobile/sms authentication already and I just forgot/didn’t realize?

How can I find that information? My account Security page just says my authenticator is active. Doesn’t give any info on what forms of authentication I have.

It sounds like you’re confusing the mobile authenticator with SMS Protect.

You can only have one authenticator associated with a Battle.net account. If you have a physical keyfob attached, you won’t be able to attach the mobile authenticator app.

SMS Protect is a separate and different thing entirely.

To qualify for the four additional backpack slots, you need to have an authenticator (either physical or mobile) attached, and SMS protect enabled

Well, how can I get SMS then? Whenever I click the prompt to take me to Blizz’s page to set up the Authenticator it says I have to DL via Google Play/App Store. …on my desktop. So that makes zero sense. I have the app already on my phone and it’s not accepting it.

So, I just added my phone number to my account. Another article said that’s all you need to do to add SMS verification. But…I still don’t have the 4 slots. It keeps prompting me to set up the SMS authenticator. Even tho my ph# is on my account. And when I go to Add Blizzard Phone Notifications, it says my security verification expired.

That’s a new one to me, perhaps billing can help further.

There is a link to submit a ticket in the second support article I posted.

The mobile authenticator is something you would install onto a supported phone or tablet. It should technically be something separate from your playing computer, if someone manages to somehow get your to install malware on your PC, it would likely be not safe for your account.

Well, thanks for the help from both of yas. The slots are there now. I logged off multiple times, since adding my phone #, but I see their FAQ site says it may take 30 mins. So this last time I logged off/on, they appeared.

Either way, the in-game prompt is still misleading. It seems all I needed to do was add my ph# to my account, but it kept leading me to add the app on my phone (via my desktop…).

Anyway, thanks again!
