Alpha Dungeon Web Wrap Mechanic and RDF ilvl Requirements

Is it just me or this is absolutely busted? I just spent about a hour or more in an OK Alpha dungeon because the web wrap mechanic was out of control. We had several instances of 3 - 4 of us being wrapped on each pull before we could even reach the mobs. We even had one trash pack web wrap one player 4 times in a row AS we were breaking them. Very un-fun to play with while they are abilities going off at the same time that need to be interrupted resulting in a time wasting wipe due to internal RNG. That was more constraining than a retail M+.

Also while I’m here. For the difficulty of the dungeons, it doesn’t feel like the ilvl requirements are appropriate for RDF - 187 for Beta just isn’t it for randoms. You can’t really “get gud” when you have about 16k-18k hp even at 200-210 ilvl and get crit for 15k by an undodgeable charge attack that follows up with an auto attack less than 1 second later, instantly killing the player. Wasn’t able to get past the first mob pack with any group of a beta I que’d into today. Not really complaining its hard, more that the “required to enter ilvl” does not seem to reflect the gear required to survive.

Ah yes, forgot to mention. We were 4/5 melee. It doesn’t really matter if you’re stacked or not if 3/5th of your group is web wrapped at the same time moving to the adds. That has nothing to do with knowing how to deal with the mechanics. You can KNOW the mechanics of everything in the dungeon, but if no one can DO the mechanics because they are all webbed, the hell difference does it make. It just guarantees a no counterplay wipe. Shoulda recorded it for you armchair dungeon masters. Noted.

Ran into some other nonsense so theres definitely gotta be some hotfixes. Skadis dragon in UP, when it came up to frost breathe a side of the hallway, it laid it down instantly all the way from harpoons back to entrance before it started its strafing run - so you took the damage instantly THEN the animation began. /shrug

Meanwhile, Pit of Saron heroic is easier, drops 232 gear, and gives gamma rewards (scourgestone). Titan rune dungeons have always been overtuned for their intended audiences, which is why people demanded you have a higher ilvl that what drops from the instance to run it.

Edit. Also, another funny thing. I can’t queue for “gamma” FoS on my mage because I’m ilvl 203 and not 210. But I can queue for “regular heroic” FoS, even though both give the exact same rewards.

Not only that, you just queue for a specific ICC dungeon and you can get both heroic and gamma quests done. No need to actually do these H+ dungeons at all.

Yeah it takes absolutely no time to do the dungeon. You also get 4 currencies from each boss. At least 3. Scourgestones, triumph and conquest. Except for LK… hes not dropping anything, at least none of my runs nothing was dropped.

Running from the LK dropped loot for me in my H HoR yesterday.

Yeahhhh. I did a LFD alpha OK last night and those webs are brutal. Once we figured out we can stack and just occasionally AoE to break people out, it was easier, but the dungeon would do it to the tank and healer sometimes and if it happened to the tank, he lost aggro instantly and we all died, lol. He got wrapped on the first boss and things got really messy.

It definitely needs to happen to 1 less person, never happen to the tank, happen way less frequently, last way less time, ANYTHING. They’re the lowest tier of + dungeons, they shouldn’t be that insane.

Yeah just stack, it gets broken by aoes. Does suck when you’re running to the group and you get wrapped on the way.

I remember they fixed that in beta, that the web wrap wouldn’t make you lose agro. Never checked to see if the same fix applied to alpha

I’m surprised that people stayed!

I got booted from a UK gamma run as the tank after people repeatedly died to the penetrating cold mechanic, because “aggro.”

I queued three instances using RDF. One was smooth, two were bad, so far.

It can go to crap so fast, it may not have happened that way. The healer wasn’t up to snuff, so he could have gotten wrapped, the tank died, and then that caused the aggro loss + wipe. Not sure, tbh. I had to heal the tank on the first boss, because the healer just wasn’t getting it done.

It’s definitely not a fun mechanic, either way. They could alter it to be more rewarding. Maybe it only web wraps casters, and the wrap is broken by HoTS. Or the person who’s wrapped gets an action button that lets them break it if they press it 5 times really fast. Maybe the web wrap takes 3 seconds to fully wrap you, and if you move, it interrupts it and lets you keep fighting. Maybe it only wraps one person, and as long as they stay separated from the group, the wrap breaks immediately, but if they stack on the tank and melee, it wraps them all for 30 seconds and you wipe. Just keep the healer far away and let him soak the wraps to save the group.

I’m not a game designer, but there’s ways to make this a challenging mechanic, not an irritating/game breaking one. :man_shrugging:

Twice it didnt for me. And i did it twice. I put in a bug report.

I do not run these on any level. Way too much of a hassle.

I think the two most annoying part of the mechanic is that anyone in the dungeon can get hit by the webwrap, even if they are out of line of sight. So if you decide to drink and get left behind, you can get wrapped and no one around to help you.

The second thing is that multiple people can get wrapped in the same “pulse”. I think the most I’ve seen is 3 people wrapped all together in melee seemingly on the same tick.
