just because someone perceives something as their reality, doesn’t mean it is.
we live in a world of flat earthers and science deniers.
choosing to believe something, doesn’t mean it’s real
i’m sure lots of people who have this issue would be capturing their play sessions.
it would be beneficial if they could provide footage of it happening.
(and this isn’t a challenge of "PICS OR IT DIDN’T HAPPEN!! …if people believe they’ve encountered a bug, the appropriate thing to do is to provide QA with as much information as possible)
So, many people posting over the years isn’t enough evidence, nor is a freaking SUPPORT PAGE DEDICATED TO THE TOPIC isn’t enough evidence that this is a thing that happens?
lmao…omg…
SL. I cant remember what it was chasing me but I literally ran nearly one end of Revendreth to the other trying to get away from something.
Every time I thought it had finally dropped and maybe I was in combat with something else, Id flip around and it was STILL there, lmao.
I think that time I did finally have to use a port or something just to get off the map. lol
I had completely forgotten about that one.
and honestly, as big and old as this game is, theyve done an amazing job at keeping the bugs as few as they are.
Its just that this one has such an obvious fix that it leaves me wondering if they dont want it fixed after a point.
The official bliz page with remedies that have nothing to do with normal game play and a LONG list in a forum search for the bug prove beyond argument (for some of us anyway) that this is a bug and its just big enough that it should have been remedied directly years ago.
I’ve had this happen to me a few times over the course of different expansions. Legion, BFA, and Shadowlands. Maldraxxus in particular was one of the worst offenders.
I remember there being 2 toys that would drop aggro. Salyin Battle Banner and Rhan’ka’s Escape Plan. Unfortunately both only work in their respective zones. A universal one would be nice.
It’s probably just too daunting and time (money) consuming a fix to be realistically implemented. Possibly along the lines of having to custom alter the code of every creature model in the game, or some such. Given that it doesn’t happen that often, and that they’ve posted a web page providing information on how to get around it, they’ll likely keep it put aside for more urgent needs.
give the suicide dagger back
Rename it “Chuckles Fun Knife” for the kiddies and the offended.
Make it not work in anything but world content.
Give it maybe a 4 hour CD…maybe more.
Put Chuckles Fun Knife on vendors for 100 gold in capital cities
It’s how the game is designed, I cannot remember exactly how or why, but apparently there are invisible enemies for some reason or another, it was how the game was made to ensure it ran due to the code it was using.
If I could find the explanation I would, but I cannot be bothered. But that’s an example, the game is old, the code is old, the game engine is old, you can only do so much when working on a base game that is this old before you just go “Nah” and just give up.
If it is not a wide enough issue that is affecting their core game, PVP, raid and M+, then they will never recode it to truly fix it.
Not really “recoding”, but simply place a duplicate toy in, and remove the zone restriction.
/shrug
I wouldn’t cal that re-coding.
Any intern can copy/paste. In fact, if I’m not mistaken, items all have properties, like…
1). Make new item.
2). Call it something.
3). Set it to do effect #whatever (in this case, kills the player)
4). Set it to display visual effect #whatever
5). Put it on a vendor.
6). Don’t set any zone restrictions
7). Choose an icon for the item.
8). Done.
Anybody could probably do that right now, in about 30-60 seconds.
They add new toys all the time. He’s suggesting one that kills the character…hopefully in a way that doesn’t cost hundreds of gold in repairs. One of Blizz’s suggestions literally is:
Get your character killed by enemy mobs, or by jumping down from a very high point
Meaning, ‘it’ll cost you gold and wasted time to clear this bug, but we don’t care’.
Heck they could just add a toy that kills the character without any blood animation, you use the item and your character just flops over dead. And I would think since it is self-inflicted damage, it should count as “damage by player” thus PvP thus no repair cost.
Last tiem I had that bug was a few months ago on that junk island. Got it and I could not log off, mount… I had to hearth, and even then I was still in combat. What what? Did the whatever get sucked through the fabric of space tiem to look at me with a dirty look? Nothing was attacking me. Alt f4 logged me out and for the next two days when I logged in that character I was stuck in combat.
I do foresee one possible problem; people misusing it to avoid their enemy being awarded honor in PvP combat. They would need to disable the toy in battlegrounds…but I’m not sure how Warmode would be affected.
And how many toys in this game already? lol
Adding one…putting one back with a few changes isnt going to be a weeks worth of work.
Sometimes people say things, realize they are wrong about details but instead of just accepting that fact have to double down to save face.
Literally the cause of a huge percentage of pointless arguments. lol
right.
Literally mimic Feign Death…but with a long CD or something and not usable in some content, obviously.
some are clearly just wanting to argue for arguments sake instead of being helpful and actually CONTRIBUTING to this discussion. Which is an ongoing thing with this particular forum. Nearly as bad as twitter most days in here.
