Allow us to do dungeons and raid with Opposite faction?

Even in PvP it’s irrelevant. Rated PvP has intrafaction match ups all the time, and some of the most fun ‘world pvp’ things were neutral free-for-alls like Stranglethorn arena and the Darkmoon cage.

I mean we already know that we’re going up against N’Zoth in BFA, it’s been made clear ingame.

Which makes this faction war and playerbase divide look even more silly and pointless than it already is.

What happens when a bunch of peaceniks start playing a game or a game series predicated on the very notion of conflict and warfare?

Posts like the ones in this thread.

I love fighting. I hate being forcefully isolated from interacting with half of the freaking playerbase for no good reason. It’s supposed to be an MMO.

Other MMO with factions also have warfare happening in them, and the players can still group/chat/etc across factions.

Good to know, thanks. It’s sounding like factions can go away completely then (which is honestly what I’d prefer). I just wasn’t sure what the impact would be for PvP since it’s a part of the game that I don’t participate in.

Then you joined the wrong damned game.

It’s been like that from day one.

You mean Alliance. Merc mode was added in 6.2. But you know that.

Bad game design decisions tend to evolve and improve with time. Enforced playerbase divide is one of those things that should have been removed long ago. Nothing is stopping Blizzard from keeping factions relevant in PvP.

What if you could design a dungeon for the opposite faction in which your character would be the final boss? :eyes:

Subjective opinion is subjective. What you call bad game design I called great game design. I prefer the adversarial system.

So we’re very clearly at an impasse here.

Explain how splitting the playerbase in half in an MMO is great game design?

I can list objective reasons why it’s terrible design.

It has been like that for 14 years. Why is it now a problem?

You don’t think Merc mode gives the same dilution?

In fact, what’s the difference?

People have been suggesting merging the factions for over a decade. This is nothing new.

BFA has just made it really obvious how silly it is to continue isolating the playerbase in half for no good reason.

I guess I disagree with you then.

I think it’s a crucial part of WoW and it should remain unless the population dwindles to dangerous levels.

It’s a crucial part of WoW? In what way? Faction division is completely irrelevant in the actual lore and even for ingame NPC’s. Why is it something that only affects players, and in what way is it a good game design considering this is an MMO?

The fact that you’re open to it happening if the faction population dwindles just shows that there is no good reason to keep waiting. There’s a reason most top-end guilds are going horde. It has nothing to do with racials and everything to do with maximizing the player pool size that one can interact with. Welcome to MMO’s.

I enjoy the faction conflict. Simple as that. There are millions of people that play this game and most people really don’t care that they’re stuck with their faction.

Disagree with me all you want but you’re not going to change my viewpoint.

Faction conflict can continue. It is no reason to stop players from interacting with each other.

They don’t “care” because the game has taken every possible step to hide the existence of the other faction from them. If they are facing a slow night and unable to find groups for something, they’ll just blame it on bad luck. They will never know that the other faction may be running groups for what they’re looking for. They will never know that there are TWICE as many players in the game that they could potentially play together with.

Having a viewpoint is fine, you just have to admit you have zero rational or reasonable basis for it.

Because I don’t like you. I don’t want to work with you. I don’t want to play with you. I enjoy the adversarial system that has been the basis of this universe since Warcraft 1.

From the first day you joined this game you knew you were joining a faction. You didn’t have to, but you did.

And you know that for a fact? I could just as easily say they are going for facials, or possibly racials if facials aren’t available at the barber, or faction imbalances on that particular realm or the fact that they just want to, for their own personal reasons.

And it IS an important part of the base lore of this game. One of the first things I was told when I started playing WoW back in 2009 by my friends was “There are two factions, Alliance and Horde, and they are enemies” (or words to that effect). It was an easy concept to grasp. Take that away from the game and you may as well change its name because it won’t be WoW anymore.
