They even added this in SWTOR recently. It’d solve so many problems.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of that. Reason being that whispering people would become impossible. One name per server is fine. I am the only Shadina on Gorefiend. I approve of it being that way.

Surname(s) that would cover all our toons or just do the server-to-server case. (To Blizzard: You can limit the number of characters that can be used for the surnames, if that will help too much data for data storage you have for our toons.)
Just using this as example:
-
MoonGuard: all Alliance toons will use Proudmoore and all Horde toons will use Windrunner
-
Lightbringer: all Alliance toons will use Googleeye and all Horde toons will use Cavemanrex
So forth. Or your entire account: all Alliance toons will use Skydancer and all Horde toons will use Cometchaser.
Or death knights named “LICHKING”/“ARTHAS!”

They COULD do this if they would just implement a last name system like SWtoR, everyone picks a last name (with the similar naming convention now for first names so no 2 people can have the same one) and then you could have any first name you like.
People already have to deal with that considering i use a ton of alt codes so my name remains ralph xD
Yep SwToR even has a legacy name.
The game should not reflect ‘real life.’ Can you imagine if it did?

That’s funny. I just made FOUR new characters recently and each has a name that doesn’t have ANY alt codes in them.
Maybe you should actually try more than once or twice to come up with a name before giving up.
