Not difficult of course but why put roadblocks for returning players that can be an entire month? Id say it should be dropped to honored or revered.
Doesn’t matter how much money the company has. Contrary to popular belief, new things take time to make.
I don’t mind that allied races require work done in the current expansion.
I have Mag’Har, but NOT any BfA Alliance allied races unlocked, yet. (And this is ok with me)
But… I am a bit shocked that allied races from previous expansions (Legion) still require the same work to be completed now.
If I was a new player, I would be… Confused, I guess?
Allied races were definitely for existing WoW players. For new players its just best to stay away from BFA and wait till the new expansion comes. Heck it sucks for Returning wow players too.
Ion is great for raid development but the business side of things - he’s made some completely bonkers decisions
does seem like it.
Here is where a blizzard apologist would say well do you need the allied races? What’s wrong with the core races? This is what they usually say.
Some the answer could be…yes!. VE’s are the blood elves of the alliance side. If you ask around many on horde side choose BE for looks. I’d be among the yes…I won’t even lie about that lol. Is what it is there. So a new/returning player might want to the alliance’s hair dresser race off the bat for bfa.
So enters the vicious cycle. Grind up to 120, get gear, go back to legion to make the grind much easier. To get the char you actually wanted.
BFA…the story is evolving. SO actual BFA races sure this makes some sense. You run BFA for a BFA race. Some aren’t even out yet.
Legion release ones…make no sense. You run BFA to go to legion to get them. And they are in the story.
Now some apologist would say you don’t need to run BFA. Yes…you do. They have stealth balance passed here. If my 120 375+ havoc DH grinds on some single target boss wq’s…a true 110 all legion gear will grind more. Wasn’t always like this. Few months back you rolled through legion 120 with even 340 BFA gear. Its gotten more grindy for me with now 370+ avg gear.
Hero classes aren’t the same as races for one and secondly if you took a break for 1-2 expansions or you’re a new player it isn’t very accessible especially if you bought it with the level boost. Your options are the play a new character and level it to max while grinding the rep to unlock a race and reset to 20 or boost to 110 hit max level and go back and reset to 20. Actually your third option which I opted for since I stopped playing at the end of cata and came back in bfa was to forfeit flying in every expansion that has path finder and forfeit allied races that aren’t zandalar based.
Kind of like how they say you couldn’t use “Legacy Loot” for Legion raids, because they were still too new; HOWEVER, Artifact Weapon effects were disabled because legacy.
It’s IN-SANE how they’re micro-managing this game to it’s demise.
Insane.
Are you blind?
Its the exact same model as Night Elves except the ears are flipped up and they made the arms and legs skinnier. The only thing unique about them is their stance (which I will admit does change how they look) and their hair styles. That’s it.
Also they made them way uglier than their NPC counterparts.
They will keep more subbed than they will lose and they know it.
Yea, I believe the intent was to make the playable Nightborne faces “detailed”. Unfortunately they did so by drawing lines on their faces instead of just shading/contouring which made them look old. Know what a lot of old people get cosmetic surgery for? To remove lines from their faces.
They also made no effort to narrow their eyes so they don’t look the same as Night Elves.
yeah i noticed this after unlocking the fire dwarf or whatever it’s called. i think i’ll sit the rest of the expansion out or come back in a month or two or whenever everything is unlocked and the final raid is out then unlock the last kiltaren race. I can say for certainty I’ve formed a new plan in regards to wow.
first going forward any new expansions I will not buy initially. what i’ll do now is wait about 9 mo to a year in or after pathfinder 2 is in the game or when they are moving on to the next expansion. then ill come in and level and do all that i want. I’ll probably not even buy the next expansion until the one after is out.
I can understand keeping Mag’har and Dark Iron (and Zandalari/Kul Tiran too) behind rep because those at least require BfA content to unlock.
But Void Elves/Lightforged Draenei and Highmountain Tauren/Nightborne STILL being locked behind LEGION content? Completely insane.
IMO the NPCs looks sweet. I only wish the Void Elves, HM Tauren, NF, and LFD had more distinct features. Sure the moose-horns are cool and all, but jeeze that’s it? Moose horns, some tattoos and glowy hair and they locked the races behind quests and faction. Moose horns. Gated moose horns.
Yikes.
I know right – I will never understand Ion’s rationality behind this even when half the WoW population has unsubbed
I ground about half of it over the course of weeks, then the 2nd half in ONE DAY right after they buffed it. It’s ridiculously easy now.
Funny how they implemented rep grinds so players could access these races early and for some insane reason they decided to keep it around forever.
Any game design that involves making players go back to old outdated content and mindlessly grind rep to get what should be core features of the game is infuriating.
Dont even get me started on Draenor and legion pathfinder LOL
it’s not like you need to be exalted with with water guys to burn out the flame runes to summon ragnaros back in classic?
have proof that half player base left from not playing fancy looking race?
I agree, the idea of allied races is novel, but the method to unlock is really overkill. They can make a compromise for us to choose between getting the allied race but hold on the mount so you can get it later for doing the little extra mile with reputation. I already burnt myself out badly in this game after unlocking all of the legion allied races and the additional leveling from 20 for heritage armor.
