I absolutely looove the Arakkoa, have since BC, and Iâve been championing their inclusion as a playable race since forever. This thread is my people.
I drove my guild nuts back in the day to farm heroic Sethekk Halls for the Anzu mount, back when you needed an epic flight Druid for it. And then came the farming for the time lost figurine⌠pretty sure they buffed the drop rate after a while, because I remember killing thousands of mobs for those darn papers. Still one of the best transformation items in the whole game.
Was so excited to see them resurface in WoD and get some interesting new lore. We even got to see our champions Terokk and Anzu in the flesh! And not have to kill them for shiny trinkets! Arakkoa are my #1 wanted playable race-- and though I have doubts about Blizzardâs ability to include them without a hitch, the idea of my favorite shifty, cackling, mad bird people being passed over for âotherâ choices is blasphemy.
Iâve been a fan of the Arakkoa for almost as long, just didnât have the toy until recently and the mount I got sometime during Wrath.
But like you, I really loved WoDâs zone featuring them; the Spires of Arak. It is, without a doubt my favorite leveling zone in the game by far and wide.
While I donât share the blasphemy opinion, everything else about this is just as much my own thoughts and feelings on the matter.
Besides, we have a shot thanks to the one thing our favorite birdfolk specialize in â the Shadowlands.
Haha. At this point my hunter holds more loyalty to Terokk and Anzu over Baine or maybe the entire Horde, so I guess neglecting the Arakkoa race really is blasphemy. As far as gods go, I donât think the Arakkoa did too poorly either; I found myself liking Rukhmar and Sethe a fair bit during the questlines in the Spires. I give my props to the designers/writers for that zone.
The possibility of Arakkoa being linked with the Shadowlands is, honestly, one of the only things that has me super hyped for an expansion announcement. WoD always felt like the âperfectâ opportunity to integrate Arakkoa as a race, but the Shadowlands has some very creative openness to it so Iâm crossing my fingers!
The problem is the Rukhmar we face is just an animated corpse; not even sentient or resembling the original oneâŚ
Which is sad⌠T^T
Itâs no possibility. They ARE linked.
The Arakkoa are the only race (not class) that can enter and leave the Shadowlands freely and at will. Besides that, they also have more of a penchant for actually dealing with the old gods since the mindsquids in Arak say that the High Arakkoa âmake them uneasyâ or something akin to that. And thatâs BEFORE they become the Low Arakkoa.
But the problem with this is that it subverts everything the directors and storywriters have done to and for SylvanasâŚ
While I agree that it felt like the perfect opportunity to make them playable, I also disagree. The timing felt too⌠I guess âearlyâ would be the best way to put it.
Like it was more of an excuse to slip them into the game somehow before a big reveal was made later on down the line.
Every time I see someone name something as an allied race (Naga/Arakkoa/Etc) I wonder if someone on the art team goes into the fetal position under their desk.
Imagine having to rig all of that together and putting all those janky vanilla models on these overly HD characters
Oof, I just had a dumb dumb DUMB idea for starting the rep grind for the Arakkoa for the Alliance, but I canât really think of a Horde version for it at the moment⌠So I wonât post it on the OP; instead, Iâll put it here.
If your character dies in front of the gate that leads to Gorgrond, then they would see what looks like scruffed-up Arakkoa tools, totems, and charms around the place. Once they walk through said gate, theyâll find themselves actually IN Gorgrond with several living Lightbound patrols looking all over for the Arakkoa. They canât see you, though, since youâre legitimately dead, but their Naaru can. You walk around until you find some Arakkoa, both high and low, hiding amongst some rubble and using the Shadowlands as extra cover.
They spot you and think youâre hiding with them before telling you to move⌠Only to watch a Lightbound Orc walk straight through you and call out that he doesnât see anyone. Once they realize youâre fully dead, they have you brought to their council and discuss how you got there when you donât belong. The Council sees this as a way for their people to escape the Lightbound undetected and start an exodus effort to reach the portal you came from.
Unlike you, the Arakkoa you bring with you CAN be seen, so you have to avoid having them spotted or else you start over. Once you have the Arakkoa escorted, you then walk back through the gate and then rez yourself before speaking to the Council again and starting the rep grind to earn the Arakkoaâs favor.
