Shamans can tank every dungeon up to BRD just fine and hold aggro thanks to Shield Spec, Frost Shock and Stoneclaw Totem.

They can’t, really. It works but it’s not ideal, and they fall off before heroics. Poor itemization and no support.

Boosting one would be terrible because they can only do it in low level dungeons

Shamans can pretend to be tanks while four other players carry them through dungeons.

I feel if the class doesn’t have an actual taunt then it’s not meant to tank. Hell I’d let a voidwalker or hunter pet tank before a shaman.

Actually, Enhancement would tank better than both. It’s actually pretty good - it just lacks the gearing support at higher levels and as you said, a taunt.

Though Stoneclaw taunts, and there’s a lot of high threat abilities from Shaman. It even has a powerful defensive CD at 50.

Why would a group take a Shaman tank, when Pallys, Warriors and Druids are in abundance and, if we are being honest, are 10x the tank a shaman is.

Can they tank? Sure. But should they tank? Not really.

Sorry, you may enjoy your meme spec, but the truth is, if anyone has a choice between a shaman or a true tank class, you will be getting the boot.

Before pre-patch, an overgeared Shaman could tank single mob fights reasonably well.

Pre-patch shifted their threat move from Earth Shock to Frost Shock (not a big deal), removed the threat from Rockbiter (a reasonably big deal) and made the Parry talent also provide significant threat reduction (a death knell to ‘Shaman tanking’).

Right now, a Soul Link Warlock tanks better than a Shaman. A Rogue tanks better. A Resto or Balance Druid in bear form tanks better. Any spec of Paladin or Warrior tanks better.

So if you’re using a Shaman to tank, you’ve got a pretty strange group.

Nope. If you are not healing as intended as a shaman you get instantly kicked.

Shaman, especially in T4, do some very good DPS. Not sure what you mean by, “as intended”.

“very good” DPS is not top tier DPS. If you want DPS you bring warlocks and hunters.
