Alliance is going to be a RP only faction soon.
It absolutely doesn’t. Faction quests, faction capitals, etc all remain separate. People can choose whether or not to be in cross faction guilds and groups.
That messes with racial lore. Why would a Nelf want to quest Horde side through Ashenvale?
i understand that ty for pointing out the obvious though
Letting Night Elves play through the scenario where we burn down their tree would be disastrous. Also, hilarious.
Let’s do it.
Because this is an rpg and someone wants to play a Nelf who feels that his peoples re embracing of arcane magic is a compleat betrayal of the world and they need purged. Or he’s playing a night elf model forsaken, aka, dark ranger. Or he’s a person playing a video game who likes the nelfs but wants to play with his friend who loves orcs.
Its really not, and its a real shame you honestly believe this.
I mean, it’s a video game.
Yup. One where it’s been stated that your character is from the main city of your race and follows the culture of said race.
Except they didn’t. The Shen’dralar training some mages is watched with much wariness. They wouldn’t even let Mordent near the moonwells. Nelf Mages are barely tolerated and constantly watched.
Forsaken are Forsaken. Might want to read their lore where it states they aren’t all humans. Nelfs from Darnassus aren’t Forsaken. And we killed off the Darkshore ones when we took back Darkshore.
And the option to group up for dungeons and raids would be there.
Faction identity needs to remain a part of the game. Keeping that separation for cities and quest zones is important. That’s lore. And lore shouldn’t be made worse or flushed entirely for you people who love to claim “but it’s just a video game.” While the story has been trash recently, it’s still very lore heavy and very story driven.
You want to make up your own headcanon, go for it. But it shouldn’t be tossed into the actual game and throw out the real storylines and lore.
Probably working as planned. Blizzard won’t need to develop cross-faction game play if everyone is ultimately in one faction.
There’s only 140k people playing WoW?
Neat
When did blizzard release these numbers?
they could give every alliance player 10 bil gold and i still wouldn’t want to play on the faction of chads and kyles
The faction balance is an issue but there is NO WAY the ratio is 74/26, c’mon now.
Blizzard has not released numbers, and likely will never be release the ‘100% accurate’ player numbers people ask for.
Sites like that are using results from addons consistently querying who of the people using the addon, that submit the data after. As such is limited to only only capturing active players, in the same faction (or factions if they use it on both sides) and time of playing of the people using the addon.
It is most certainly inaccurate to the ‘100% picture’ that people want because of that, it doesn’t represent all servers, and absolutely needs to be taken with a heaping of salt.
That said, results from such, more so just looking at direct results from it in game can give a sampling that can give a general idea, that obviously is not 100% accurate, of things.
As an example:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/517049021064282115/679415804957294642/unknown.png
That is a racial representation that would only be accurate for the Horde on my server at the times of day that I play. It would not be accurate for any other server, or for any other time of day that I don’t play, it is most certainly not ‘100% accurate’ representation of racial representation on my server.
But it is a sampling that can give a basic picture, of course taken with the grain of salt.
The data should be good for a picture of basic trends, at the very least. So long as we know that, we can use the information constructively.
Basically, there is no way the data should look like this in any kind of healthy game. Even if you want to say that the data is flawed because they’re collecting from pro-horde realms rather than pro-alliance realms given that the data is all volunteer it means that there are more horde players randomly willing to collect data than there are alliance players randomly willing to collect data.
Which is why I would suggest that the 25/75 split is actually closer to being correct than it is to being way off.
Additionally, because it’s a basic /who scan and not any kind of character dive through the guild api, it’s going to be closer to the MAU data I challenge the devs to give us a glimpse at than the previous character scans.
The thing is that players can have multiple characters, but can only play one character at a time. This means that characters do not equal players, and AH scanning is going to be far less accurate than /who scanning. Especially during a population contraction where people on the alliance are going to be abandoning a bunch of old alliance characters, to play one or two horde characters full time.
I mean, if you have 16 alliance characters and one horde character, but you play the one horde character 99% of the time, are you an alliance or a horde player?
The AH scan would mark you as alliance x16 and horde x1, but is that how you really play?
This means that no, the 75/25 metric is probably not that far off given recent trends. Especially with the faction transfer sale a few weeks ago and the success of the zandalari trolls and vulpera compared to the absolute dud of the mechagnomes AND the Kul’tirans.
So yea. 74/26 is entirely reasonable.
Ion says “We’re crashing this faction, with no survivors!”
This.
It’s so tempting to go Horde on my main simply because I want to do +15’s, and while that’s doable on Alliance, you can compare the group finder and premade groups from Discord between the factions. It’s infinitely easier on Horde simply because there’s more groups running.
I’m legitimately nervous for Shadowlands. If it’s hard to find pugs now, is it going to get worse?
Dungeons and raids is but a small part of the game, not truly playing with your friends. As for lore, by that logic my Vulpera shouldn’t be able to join in the assaults on the Molten Front. Nor should my Lightforged be charging across Northrend to challenge Arthus the Lich King. Nor my Nightborne be on AU Dreanor at all.
The devs have said that each expansion is time locked to it’s own era separate from the current expansion. Such is the only way to explain why old content is still in place despite plot moving far beyond it.
So you could have a few diplomatic or emmisary heroes move between factions as part of the new peace accords via an exchange of soldiers, something that is done IRL as a matter of fact (at least in the US it is). Playing through old content (which would include BfA by the time this happened) would be either by the power of the cosmetic spell hand-wavicus, or by you getting a glance though time to horde actions in the past that you play ride along actor in by Chromie. Something that is perfectly established in lore in the form of several dungeon’s, raids, and story arcs.
They let the Highborn back in, despite elves using arcane magic almost bringing the world to the brink of oblivion some 4 or 5 times now. They are the only faction of elves hypocritical enough to ban it, before saying it’s ok again because, mumblemumble[shrug]. I could easily see how that could turn one against ones own race/faction.
The population in general is crashing
I don’t need a site to tell me the population is low when the end game participation and guilds themselves tell the story enough.
