Alliance bias in the story

But edgy edgelords is literally the story that the teenagers playing horde characters want.

I partially feel for you here on this one.

From a story perspective, the Horde-Alliance dynamic has not been morally grey most of the time. It has been very much black & white, with the Horde more often than not being aggressors and executors of atrocities while the Alliance seeks justified vengeance or are valiant defenders.

Part of this has to do with the characters in the game and those characters motivations and goals.
Simple questions to ask would be:

  • What did you think was going to happen if Garrosh was warchief?
  • What did you think was going to happen if Sylvanas was warchief?

As soon as that happened, it was inevitable that not only there would be a faction war, but it would be the Horde who perpetrated it.

At this point in time, however, we’re getting slightly closer to the morally grey areas you are desiring. In Anduin’s case, he’s more likely to have to deal with rogue commanders like Tyrande and Genn. Be of mind, people seem to treat the position of High King like the equivalent of a Warchief on the Alliance. It’s not. It is voted upon and is strictly about military power. The individual faction leaders still act autonomously. The only thing Anduin has 100% control over is Stormwind. At any point, the council of 3 hammers in Ironforge can flip him off and do what they want. He’s just meant to be a representative of the Alliance to other potential factions (like the Horde) and a leader regarding the military.
Back on point, with 2 possible rogue commanders that leads into possible morally grey territory for the Alliance (esp. with how vengeful Tyrande is feeling…at SOME POINT…her vengeance will go too far and it will no longer be justified…granted that point is going to be a ways because of what Sylvanas did, but just give it time).
As for the Horde, the faction leaders who are left…I mean I could see the Mag’har doing something if they believe the current council lacks ‘strength’ in its decision. The goblins may get too greedy and that may cause tensions inadvertently.

It’s a Horde problem really. If The Alliance won the war outright, The Horde would likely be dismantled and “imprisoned” on their land.

If The Horde won, they’d just kill every last living thing that breathes on Alliance territory until half the worlds population is just gone.

Which breaks the game.
