A poorly played group of alliance doesn’t change the strength of IB choke. It’s a single entry narrow path with archer cover and a gy at your back. There is no choke on the map that gives alliance the same defensive advantage.
Alliance lose more often than not because of bad play, but if both sides play well, horde should never lose.
If people would fight instead of trying to run past IBT…this wouldn’t be an issue. If people would play defense instead of ignoring the horde taking our bases…the choke could not be maintained…and if the horde were not easily able to place saboteurs on the alliance side, it might be worth my time to come back to epic bgs……sa it stands, the horde is pretty much playing themselves in epics…I don’t know why they are addressing alliance on these issues at all.
Speaking of this, what’s the deal with Alliance side epic bgs queue? Last night I tried to play a few epic bgs on my Alliance toon, and AV popped 5 times in total (not in a row, but it’s still a lot).
Then today AV has been the bg that popped 2 out of 3 times (WG was the other pop). And of course, every single AV was a loss.
Doesn’t seem very “random”
I get that RNG is RNG (4 possible bgs or a 25% chance), but come on… giving me the worst possible bg when I decide to play my Alliance toon?
EDIT: aaaaannd, I just got dropped into an in-progress/losing Alliance AV, you can’t make this up
BG’s, (especially epic BG’s inc AV) have been an utter dumpster fire lately. Not sure if it’s an influx of new players, people only there just because they want their essences, or a lack of mercs since they nerfed it with the enlistment bonus. But it’s been garbage.
Hey there, I saw you in one of my Alliance AV matches tonight. Yes, it was a rough night
I think it’s a combination of ^ these things, personally I rarely merc much anymore… so that’s minus one 440+ player that could be helping out. I’m sure I’m not the only Hordie either.
I find it’s better to just wait out the longer Horde 16-20 minute queue time, since my chances of getting a win are significantly better (speaking of epic bgs specifically).
Getting multiple timers running is never a losing strategy since it forces the other team to make choices as to which towers they’re going to try and recap first while risking the others. Rogues should be especially focused on getting multiple tower timers running since they’re nowhere near as valuable if they try to participate in open team fights.
So one person pulls them away and another person caps. 2 out of 40 people to cap a GY and help break a chokepoint doesn’t seem like much to ask really.
How do you explain the years when Alliance totally dominated Horde in AV?
I think it will be hard to convince Blizzard and Horde that Alliance deserve buffs in AV and Horde deserve nerfs until Alliance improve their gameplay.
There are other BG’s that have perceived advantages for the Alliance that have been ignored for years. Dumbing down the game won’t make it more fun. Do we really want Blizzard Pruning the BG’s to make them all easier? Where does it stop?
I want Alliance to play better, I want to know I could lose anytime I face them, I want fun matches that are a challenge.
Alterac Valley and the IB Choke have been in the game since patch 2.3 (may be wrong), it’s part of World of Warcraft’s history. Blizzard should declare it Settled Law and promise to never change Alterac Valley.
Alliance won for years because horde let them. Horde have had the power to set the pace of the game since the inception of resources. Scorched Earth proved that.
Buffed npcs stopped the zerg and made both factions play defensive to win. A Zerg only works when the other side fails to defend and that’s true for both factions. Alliance lose AV now for the same reasons horde lost for years. Horde backcap, alliance don’t. It’s frustrating being in a group so willing to hand over resources but that’s become a regular thing in alliance AV.
I’m not blaming the map for the current sad state of alliance AV but I am 100% convinced the map favors horde in a defensive game. Alliance have to commit more and work harder to defend their resources due to placement of chokes. (Try setting up a choke at SH vs setting one up at IB) A mid map choke has more impact than one at the end of the map and IB is the best mid map choke. How can anyone deny that?
Even so killing the general is harder with more towers up. When I gave up on AV, almost every game resulted in alliance giving up SHB and IWB uncontested while horde were recapping IBT and TP. Horde stall alliance offense, but rarely did alliance do the same to horde offense.
I miss the days when alliance sent back cap teams to SHB and IWB but they seemed more focused on offense than defense so I pretty much gave up on AV.
As for IBT, I think bypassing it for IBGY is a solid strat. With horde defending IBT and rezzing so close, it’s much harder to take unless you get the GY first.
But they don’t take IBGY or if they do they don’t defend it . They run towards TP and then keep running south while the horde in IBT, move south and retake IBGY and TP.
Most AV games after about 15 minutes you will see that IBT and TP will be with Horde while the alliance would be further south fighting on the last 2 towers .
