I am so on the fence with this. On one hand I do want more transmog options that people can wear across classes but on the other hand class fantasy is important. There is a middle ground to be had were raid/ iconic class sets (and items that share the same model) remain class only and all other gear is transmog for everyone.
Something like would still add more options for transmog but retain elements of class fantasy. I did not mention PvP sets because I am not really that familiar with those looks but some should fit under iconic looks. The one thing I am not on the fence about is letting us unlock the looks regardless of class. If it is soulbound then unlock the transmog. It sucks to do a transmog run only to end up with gear outside of your type and a bunch of rings, necks, and trinkets.

I do think there should be class restrictions on transmogs, and some armor type restriction, though not as extensive as now.
The rise of ‘cosmetic’ class equipment and sets is a reall good step in the right direction and I hope they keep it up.
I also think an option should be available to unlock transmog for your account on any character no matter if they can equip it.
I’m probably one of the few people with the unpopular opinion that it shouldn’t change… cloth should stay cloth, etc…
What I think Blizzard should fix though is collection. I think if you’re soloing stuff if it ends up in your bag, it should end up in your collection.
Lots of people are all for removing restrictions but I don’t think it should happen.
I do think it will take away from classes whose armor they were intended for. Especially during the current expansion when the design is current and highly sought after.
I also think it will make everyone look / feel more homogenized. If you truly mean remove ALL restrictions then I don’t want to see a Rogue with a shield or a Mage in oversized plate gear. I don’t want to look at someone that looks like a tank but then casts a fire spell.
toys can already do this btw
lots of plate-looking mawsrown ‘cosmetic’ gear already in the game, ur mage can already look like they wear plate
so u want to delete shamans then?

I agree, all restrictions should be removed except for class specific sets (cloaks should have class restrictions removed imo though). Even weapon mogs should only be limited by what items your spec can equip, Frost DK’s artifact transmog shows that mogging DW weapons over a 2H weapon doesn’t break anything.
Because most tier sets use design elements specifically tied to the class.

this is only fair if all classes can wear all items.
if plate wearers can pick up mog of all types, so should cloth wearers be able to.
but also, no. I don’t think ti’s a good idea.
Cant wait to see all the warriors with slutty cloth mogs in dungeons
This is true and so brutal. I would hate it.
tbh i want the restrictions to go away for 2 simple reasons. 1 mail transmog is pretty crappy looking compared to everything else so it would be nice to get some decent mogs. and 2nd i miss trolling people on my warrior running around in a dress with a str staff and then stomping them when they thought i was a caster back in vanilla. o i should add i dont mean removing class specific locks on the transmog because that makes sense just on a class design
I can already do this with some pieces. I can get some sets from islands that are that. Can already wear some dresses. Wear the store stuff and the holiday stuff.
I would agree if they hadn’t already basically abandoned armor types in regard to how they look.
I’ve played a Rogue since vanilla and the sheer amount of armor in these last few expansions that flat out look like plate is crazy.

Transmog has very little to do with class fantasy. A mage who studies doesn’t prevent him from hitting the gym and lifting some weights. You’d think a human mage with how buff they are would be wearing plate regardless. Point being, restricting transmog because of “ClASs FanTasy” is tripe at this point. If anything, opening transmog up completely would improve class fantasy. Battle Mages decked out in a mixture of plate and cloth would now be a thing. Shadow Hunters decked out in minimal clothing with some mail and cloth pieces. Enhancement shamans in plate armor, at the forefront like Thrall is. Seriously, it’d be way better for the game.

Do you know what class these are?
I could post many others. I will not make a longer list, though.

already do that with one of my warriors, all gear from in-game no shop stuff
So, Plate wearers can wear everything, but Clothies get nothing new?
In BFA, the Alliance troops in Boralus carry swords and shields like warriors and paladins but run around in the mail set my hunter, who can’t even touch a shield, got to wear.
The game’s framing is made by the people who break the visual class rules more than anyone else.
