What do you mean when you say suppression of the core rotation? Because if by suppression in the core rotation you mean us waiting on FoF and RSK to come off CD, then there are other ways to go about doing that aside from making haste more valuable. Increasing the CDR given by BoK would be another method of doing that.
To my knowledge, Power Strikes was just on a 15sec ICD.
And now we have TP, EH, TP.
I honestly haven’t seen it.
Serenity could also be further buffed to bring it up to par with SEF. Not just be given an extra charge. The idea is to bring Serenity up to par with SEF so they can be interchangeable. That way we can choose to talent into SEF if we expect AoE, or stay Serenity and avoid AI.
Haste added to your character doesn’t just convert to additional resources. It’s a loop where you gain chi at the same rate built in CDR will have you spend it. This is why gaining a % of haste doesn’t feel like your gaining it unless it’s in massive amounts like bloodlust or trinkets. It helps the “feel” and pace of Windwalker stay consistent across various haste levels while still allowing haste to have an impact. The negative result was that a % of haste converts to a low amount of damage, especially so for values outside of ones that give additional casts inside a SEF window or something, and is one of the reasons that ilvl hasn’t scaled as well as it could. The other part to scaling being the damage percent of crit & stamina (due to ToK, ToD) which is now going to be much closer than before where hopefully a crit/mastery peice will provide the same (relative) improvement as a vers/haste, or vers/mastery, etc depending on the type of sim or content your doing and help eliminate areas of concern with progression raiding, m+, and itemization overall.
Both changes are, or should be, changes in a positive direction for scaling shadowlands but until we see more tuning it’s still debated.
What I got out of that is that we want our 2ndary stats to do more for us. However, instead of just doing the obvious thing and just giving us increasing returns to scale/altering equations, it was decided for us to make 2ndary stats scale better for us through the implementation and alteration of CDs that make them better instead of just making us mathematically scale better.
I can’t help but feel we chose the convoluted solution rather than a simple one.
Well more power to you if you think that changing the scaling value for secondary stats is going to be easier than bringing a hypothetical 1% increase as close as possible to an actual 1% increase and retaining consistency through content.
Add an ability that can be extremely fallible, do some math, and hope the math works out.
Is there something I’m missing? It just seems like a simple choice. Rather than make a spec/class strong through intermediaries, why not just make it solid from the ground up?
Simple in the short term, but would require constant revision any time a change is made to the spec as you would need to evaluate if the customised haste value is still appropriate.
There are a lot of things I disagree with Talby about, but this is not one of them.
Also regarding Xuen and adding extra AI to the class. Deal with it - a class should not be perfect and should have peculiarities. You’re real gripe should be with Blizzard’s AI. Additionally, for a class that has little auto damage, it is not necessarily a bad thing having a Xuen guardian as it gives us some free burst auto damage.
Whilst I would also like to see some player focused Xuen/celestial ability themes, there are other ways that should be done, which would probably be better.
Fort brew for example, should give a Niuzao aura or modification instead of just giving us a stone texture. WDP should have Yu’Lon coiling around us, SCK should be recoloured to match Chi-Ji and perhaps a circling beak follows our extended leg. FoF could have the air crackle with lightning or we could see some additional clawing effects.
Overall, Blizzard really went cheap on monk animations.
I saw some really odd looking lightning cloud around targets when I cast Xuen now so thats a step in the right direction but Monk animations really could use some touching up for the long term. Not really sure what the limitations or thoughts surrounding them are (or how other specs/classes feel).
Alternatively, they could just let it sit. I don’t think we’d be reaching ridiculous enough levels of haste as WW to warrant serious concern anytime soon. The worst I could see happening is us overflowing on resources, and having really short RSK CDs.
We’re far from perfect, And if initial reports are to be believed, we’re getting Venthyr AI pets too. While I agree we should have some flaws, I feel like we already have them. We have the whole Karma as defensive vs offensive thing as well as Karma just being really flimsy on its own. Not to mention that despite how fun our rotation is because of our mastery, it’s really hard to mess up our mastery when it counts. When was the last time you FoFed or RSKed the same target twice in a row? There’s also the whole lack of raid utility thing, and stagnant talent tree issue.
I agree.
I kinda disagree on this. I feel like they didn’t go cheap, but instead left a lot of assets lying in the dust. The MoP Leggo Xuen cloak proc and all the cloak effects would be amazing monk animations. The Legion WW artifact weapon Crosswinds Trait’s animation would also be a great monk animation. There’s probably a lot more that could be named.
I know there are lots of issues and worries over lack of communication but I wanted to know… when this tread was first started MW was in a pretty bad spot but it seems that is not the case, number wise anymore, the videos I see people talking about it were from August and the newest videos seem to indicate that its decent now.
Is MW in a decent spot now? Whats the TD;LR? I am heavily debating between monk and druid for healing and I’d really like to make a informed choice.
Numbers can change, but overall we are in a good spot. The yu Lon cd we now have is juicy. Covenants are all pretty nice. Our dmg is low which kinda sucks, but in terms of just healing we are doing prettt well. Our current strongest legendary is boring as hell and I hope they nerf it, but that’s just me.
That’s good to know I’m torn between the two classes as I like them almost 50/50 so trying to see what the pros/cons are. Monks always been just pure fun to me though.
Will say this, MW was always gonna be good the first tier just because of how we scale, we will most likely start getting weaker after the first raid, it prob won’t be an Instant falloff like it was from uldir to dazar alor because of things like yu lon and such.
Do you think MW will stay at least middle of the road (baring any weird nerfs, etc)? I don’t wanna be the BEST healer just wanna stay middle of the pack for raids and m+ or like druid, not amazing in raid but amazing in m+ (or vice versa).
It’ll be strong for keys always, atm it’s gonna be number two in keys. I think it’ll remain middle of the pack. Certainly good enough for mythic raiding. All of this is subject to change ofc.
I think judging from Vanilla to Wrath that power growth works extremely well over about 3 expansions. I would prefer we reset to a base new or slightly tweaked idea every 3 expansions and then build from there. That way our Class and growth lasts for 3 full expansions, then resets.
It would certainly be better feeling like I may need to reroll every 3 expansions but have a solid concept I love for 3 expansions while continuously building than feeling like I need to reroll and lose all my power at the same time every SINGLE expansion… -_-
I mean if this is the goal isnt the game basically statless in that case. Nothing is specific, everythings redundant and theirs actually just 1 stat called ILVL? Why even have stats in this case instead of just having “You got stronger” as you get more gear.
This is probably the biggest bummer to me from a gearing perspective in a game thats now nearly completely based around getting more gear for its end game concepts. If longevitiy is reliant on itemization and itemization is this bland I have no idea what the draw is. Odd design imo. I want unique specialized gear again. Gear that makes me wake up when it drops and go “Oh! That piece is perfect for ME!”
