All Classes Availible to All Races

Fully agree, it’s time to discard all of these pointless restrictions on character generation.

Nah, it still doesn’t make sense to do this with the lore. Especially paladins. Never allow void elves to be paladins.

They aren’t pointless…

Night Elves are Demon Hunters for a reason, no other race made the pact needed.
Blood Elves lack the affinity to commune with nature due to the addiction to magic

I do?

you can have fun mindlessly running dungeons I guess, probably better games for that tbh.

It has been mentioned that it is coming we just don’t know when .

Seeing as two have been done I’m sure rest are not far behind.

While I’d like new or any racial lore, it’s sad to say Blizz has made it largely irrelevant. Too many important things have gone by and been ignored. Also, our characters are essentially big time heroes and there’s no reason they should be defined by their racial background. Especially since we are just going to go and ignore things our races stand for the moment we start leveling. Our heroes never put their race first. When Magni was turned into a diamond there was never a quest to try to fix him. Instead we went to Pandaria to find Anduin.

Just to be clear. While I don’t think we need any new lore, I’d be happy to have it anyway.

Lots of players do. Just because you don’t think that the lore is worth preserving doesn’t mean that everyone feels that way.

And no I don’t think that Blizzard being inconsistent in the past is enough reason to just throw it all to the wind in the future.

I agree to an extent, tauren rogues for example honestly didn’t need any actual justification.

but then you run into stuff like void elf paladins… How do you make that work. Even in a “I’m a unique super special awesome hero” way it just feels wrong. I think for some combos there definitely needs to be justifying lore - or suitable gameplay changes (paladin void spec when?)

They are knocking out the ones that do not need race specific assets. Rogue, Mage, and Priest are done and Monk is around the corner which just leaves Warlock next.

Can’t wait to see the aneurysms caused on these forums when Draenei can be Warlocks

Not really. They could be super lazy about it from the start and just add a Cat, Bird, Bear, (Boomkin would be the only different one) of the area that race is found in. Automatically what comes to mind is Undead. Cat: Hyena, Bird: Carrion Bird or Diseased Hawk, Bear: Plagued Bear. And like I said the Owlkin would be the only difficult one.

I agree. It’s a lot easier to open up some classes than others. Rogue is a good example since there’s not really anything that stops any race from getting good at the ol’ sneaky stabby. Rogue is a very generalized class in that it never really defines a power source or anything like that.

Conversely, Druid is an EXTREMELY specific class which has a very narrowly defined power source and is a heavy part of the culture of each race that has access to it. That’s a lot harder to open up.

A better example is why a Night Elf can’t be paladin? They can be priests, they can be warriors…same with orcs.

Illidan barely tried to reach out to the other races because, due to elven superiority complexes, he didn’t think they could cut it. He blamed whatever he could; short lifespans, inelegance, lack of pointy ears, whatever.

The road of a Demon Hunter is long, hard, and extremely dangerous, but ‘Elf’ is not a requirement. You just need to be able to make, and survive, the sacrifice.

Same deal with Warlocks, it’s a pact that you make. Draenei are culturally allergic to the notion, but an individual Draenei (the PC), could easily find themselves in such a position that it’s either ‘die’ or ‘make a deal’ and not everyone will choose ‘die’.

Druidic power can be emulated and studied. Elemental power can literally be bought (Goblins). Paladin power is something you can steal.

Every class can, and should, be available to every race.

You brought up some good points. But I think as far as lore goes. The release of the classes has an already made reason. Over the years. Wow has experienced multiple catastrophes some do to war, some do to natural disasters. Many of Wow’s races have been forced to migrate to other regions of the planet and even other planets and realms.

And at times for the defense of the realm of existence. Many races have banded together for their mutual defense. So Wow isn’t the factional closed off from each other races that it was at the beginning. The Races these days are more united and interdependent on each other. With much exchange of information and skills.

So it would stand to reason that our modern Wow World society is more inclusive then it was originally. With this comes the ability for any race to learn from other races. Hence,
any race can be any class.

PS: I have been patient. Been waiting for this change since 2004.

The problem is Blizz is more than just inconsistent. They are often blatant with some of their poor story writing. I don’t appreciate making my character or important lore characters intentionally dumb in order for a plot point to be forced through. That just insults your player base.

I hear ya on that. Part of me feels maybe that can fall into game mechanics, which we have a lot of. Aren’t holy priest forsaken more of a game mechanic? They could add new animations to basically turn them into something else. Mechanically they would be a paladin but the spells and animations could be something different.

Current lore doesn’t support certain class combinations like Draenei Warlock, Forsaken/Orc Paladin, Blood Elf Druids, and Kul Titan Paladin, among others. Blizzard can write new lore to explain them for sure, but then people can’t really complain about the lore being bad when people’s demands are the reason the lore is shoddy.

The thing with lore is blizz retcons their lore whenever it suits them. So forget the lore, just open it all up already.

Night elves 10,000 years ago: “Your reckless use of arcane magic has sundered the world and almost let a titan loose to destroy our world. There will be ABSOLUTELY no arcane magic in our society and you lot are banished”

Night elves today: “oh you wanna be a mage…dats coo”

That actually comes down to the difference between a Priest and a Paladin. Priests are any spiritual leader for any divine source. Human Priests can be Priests of the Light, Night Elf Priests can be Priests of Elune. But Paladins are specifically Paladins of the Light. That’s why even for a race like Tauren, they bent the lore a bit to specifically make them draw power from the sun. Despite both being faith-based classes, Paladins are a lot more specific in concept than Priest is and not every race incorporates martial warriors into their spirituality the same way races that have access to Paladins do.

If you wanted to get super heavy into the lore looking at WC3, Human Paladins serve a similar role in their culture to Night Elf Priestesses of the Moon, which obviously look very different on the battlefield with many of their iconic abilities having been split up into Druid and Hunter.
