Algarian Stormrider bugged completely

The new ability (unsure what causes it) sometimes makes you not able to control the mount at all with your mouse. Camera just rotates but you can’t actually control the movement.

Yep, having that same issue. Personally, I wish they’d let us either spec into that new ability or retain the old ability. I’d rather not have to build up 10 stacks of static before I can go fast. I mean, we have talent trees for dragonriding.

Experiencing the same issue - once hitting Static Surge I’m losing the ability to control the mount with my mouse.

Same issue, and really don’t like this new ability at all. I’d greatly prefer that it be optional somehow.

Same issue. When Lightning rush is engaged turning with the mouse isn’t possible, only keyboard turning works.

Really love the look of this mount and want to use it, but trading whirling surge for a bugged ability is no bueno.

I’m having the same problem too with no control after Lightning Rush. I thought maybe it was my mouse, but I see others are having the same problem.

Glad to hear that I’m not the only one experiencing this. Like the post above me, I thought my mouse was dying on me. Definitely acting a bit wonky. Is this just with the Lightning Rush or is anyone seeing issues with the other dragon riding mounts too?

After experiencing this myself, a guildmate of mine brought up an interesting thought - that the Algarian stormrider is possibly supposed to lose ‘power steering’ temporarily during Lightning Rush. Lightning Rush is labeled as a “replacement to Whirling Surge” in the tooltip. Currently, Whirling Surge costs 3 vigor and gives full steering control during its animation. Lightning Rush costs 0 vigor but you can’t steer for a few seconds. It also has the charge-up conditions which are dependent on surrounding terrain.

I can’t recall if it’s been mentioned, or maybe they’ll go over this in tomorrow’s deep-dive panel at Blizzcon, but Dynamic flyers may start to be element-based from now forward. Wind flyers, Lightning Flyers, etc. “Whirling Surge” might be a keystone ability for “wind-based flyers” such as all the dragon mounts we’ve had up until now, and may be preferred in open skies since there is no way to charge up. “Lightning-based flyers” such as the new stormrider might excel in caverns and cities. This idea is supported by the fact that the vigor bar for the stormrider has lightning “flair.” Will Whirling Surge and Lightning Rush be interchangeable on the flying talent trees perhaps? Not sure.

That all said, it would still be nice to have the steering penalty mentioned on the tooltip for Lightning Rush, assuming it’s intended.

same issue, i prefer lets choose the Lightning Rush or Whirling Surge

Its also worth noting the gryphon races are designed with huge straight bits in them that conveniently show up just after you get to 10 stacks. The lack of sharp steering during the ability feels completely intentional.

If you look at the ability when you use Lightning Rush, it will say boosted speed and limited handling

What’s being reported here is that while the ability is active there is no turning with your mouse, while there is turning (though limited as the ability implies) if you use your keyboard. The assumption is that you should have similar turning ability with both steering methods.

I felt I could turn with the mouse, it was just hidden by the fact I could massively over shoot my camera compared to how much I was turning that made it feel a little unwieldy.

So we are supposed to fly into walls and “deal with it”? Great design.

You’re supposed to use lightning rush when it makes sense to do so, eg when you want to travel in a straight line for a decent distance. It’s not like you pressed whirling surge while travelling either 95% of the time, these are mostly niche abilities.

It’s not a bug with Lightning Rush, its simply not mentioned in the tooltip. The Storm Rider courses are designed with specific straightaways where you will fly through 2-3 checkpoints in a straight line. it’s not supposed to be used on cooldown like whirling surge.

Storm Rider: Gold - Achievement - World of Warcraft (wowhead.com)

" Important to know is that Lightning Rush reduces your ability to turn at maximum speed so be sure to use it on the straight and narrow areas. "

I’m not sure if you know this or not, but the text that you quoted is from a user not affiliated with Blizzard at all. So, you using it as a reference doesn’t support your narrative whatsoever, lol.

Additionally, if you continuously right click and move the mouse simultaneously, you turn considerably more than simply holding right mouse button and moving, thus suggesting that it is indeed a bug.

By the same logic, if a user not affiliated with Blizzard can make a claim that it’s working as intended, then how does a user not affiliated with Blizzard make a claim that it’s not working as intended?

The answer is in the buff given itself.

Lightning Rush
Boosted speed and limited handling.
5 seconds remaining
