They probably nerfed /who to get rid of the annoying botted chat channel invites. And good riddance to them.
No, it has to be something involving tinfoil and hats…

Yep. how will we survive without /who?
You don’t need a blue post. They did it because It’s inaccurate and just serves as a way for people to cry about faction imbalances.
If you can’t play the game without crying about “Omfg it’s not 50/50 balance I can’t play!” then don’t play.
The Census addon information is inaccurate as the data is taken from -
I too used the addon to make decisions knowing full well the info was biased. It was still fun to play with on a personal level, watching my server population ebb and flow as the day went on.
I don’t think these reports detail what you think they detail. If you invest in a company, the only thing that matters is the bottom line. Blizzard has many products and revenue streams. Classic is a part of ONE. The footnote in that report would probably say: Classic brings back many subscribers who prefer the older version of the game.
Nice we got more fish in our nets! cool. let me read the next massive report regarding a completely different company.
Honestly hearthstone probably brings in millions with next to no development cost. What you should be concerned about, is if profits fall enough for classic or retail, the investors would demand the plug for both be pulled and focus on cheaper more lucrative mobile games.
This is a reality that is actually happening. In fact I am pretty sure classic was conceived as a justification to investors that WOW is still worth the cost.
For more info on what I am talking about, dig into the whole Konami Kojima thing.
Nah. People were errantly using the data to justify not transferring or worse, to transfer. Or, to tell people not to roll a particular faction on a realm based solely on the ratio. Paying no attention to the level distribution.
This was for the best considering people’s obfuscating understanding of statistics.
The ‘census’ was always unreliable but using that as the reason to cripple it would set a bad precedent. Next Blizzard should cripple collection of data for RaiderIO because it inaccurately measures the skill of players, right?
People installing the addon and running it in is how we get the data. How can that data be wrong, exactly? It’s just making a note of what character is online and what level they are. How could that, in any way, be inaccurate?
Yes? If you’re going to go through the trouble of finding it, and running it, for the purposes of doing something useful for the community then it’s reasonable to assume that you’re going to take the time to upload it since it’s time consuming to get that data to begin with.
You’re not making good arguments as to why the data would/should be considered inaccurate.

Cute. Ok, for simplicity’s sake imagine this. You have two servers. A uses the addon, and B does not.
So according to the uploaded information on the website, no players are on server B. No horde, no alliance, B server is empty and dead.
Change it around a little, say 60% on A use the addon, and 20% use it on B, oh and of those 20%, most of them work 9-5.
So, according to B’s upload the server is dead between 9 and 5 even though the server has a nice population that aren’t at work. Get it?
Sorry If this is not clear, but this is why the addons information is inaccurate and is downright skewed as I said in my post.
I hope I "made a good argument " to your liking.
Better, but still too many assumptions to try to make an argument and no the least bit charitable, because it suits your argument to not be. To assume that there’s no overlap inbetween the number of people and times scanned isn’t smart at best and stupid at worst. Baring in mind EVERYONE has access to this and the type of person that would even use this addon is the type that wants accurate numbers to get a good representation of the data set. FURTHERMORE, people have been using this more, well, before they broke it, to test and see where they and they’re friends can transfer to, meaning, they have an even greater incentive to get accurate numbers.
Change my mind.
Do I have a virus? I never downloaded that CensusData but I’m still getting my /who blocked. It’s been a bish knowing who the tf I’m talking to since shift-click on names also stopped working (and WIM also stopped displaying info)

Exactly, you have to make way too many ignorant assumptions based solely on users of an addon and their uploads. It would be foolish of them to claim their data a reliable depiction of the entire Classic player base.
Assuming the population uses the addon in the first place, assuming all of the addons users even upload their data, assuming the scans are taken around the clock, assuming there are no data errors. Assuming the same count of data collectors were on each server. Too many assumptions indeed! You know what they say about assumptions.
As earnest as the addons users were to get accurate information, without 100% participation from the entire player base, the data collected cannot be considered true. Basic Statistics 101. To argue this point is absurd.
Its like a straw pole. “Will you only play at night?”
80% polled said they will only play at night. Does that mean that 80% of the entire World of Warcraft population will only play at night? Of course not, it means that 80% of those taking the poll will only play at night.
Even the original poster of the compilation data on Wowhead said, “Note: As mentioned above, this data is not complete and could use more contributions. There are realms with very low population numbers, which probably indicates a lack of users from those realms contributing with data.”

I hope I cleared this up for you and I am sorry they broke the addon, as I said in a previous post that even though I never uploaded my data I did enjoy playing with the addon.
Some data is better than no data. What was there is better than nothing. If nothing else it painted a low res image than no image at all and the image it rendered was useful to those seeking answers.
However, your pessimism in this is noted.
Transfers are failing because people are forced to go to dead low pop servers. Im on pagle with probably the worst horde alliance imbalance but im not transferring to windseeker which looks dead.
the reason census is off and wow census is blocked is because wow classic has failed and lost almost every players blizzard managed to attract. proof i run on the primal data center for ff14. when classic launched up until last week i did not ONCE get a queue timer to log in ff14. starting last week primal datacenter started to get waiting queues to log in your server.
Server ques are world specific. I am Lamia which is on primal I get a short que everytime I log in. This has been happening since SHB launch.
ff14 queue times
shb launch 1100-1500.
classic launch from 1500 to 10
calassic becoming a failure from 10 to60
