Aggressive people on forums who hide their profiles (What happened to trust but verify?)

This. I think mine is hidden but would totally open it up if I could.

You can still look them up if you are that concerned, you just don’t get to be as lazy about it.

And do you really think most people even care if someone doesn’t believe them on this forum, if you don’t come out and call them a liar anyway ? I sure don’t, your opinion matters nothing to me in this regard.

Rastlin is okay. He means well and has his own opinions, which i can respect.

He can be and is kind…so take the rough with the smooth, it usually balances out

I would never assume that someone with hidden anything is good at the game.

Do they make different sizes of that tinfoil hat?

I don’t even know you can do this. if someone wants to know my main it easy just ask. Its striff on shattered halls. I don’t hide it. I just prefer him to post on. Not sure why. But I like him more.

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that “my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

It isn’t an ad hominem attack to point out that someone’s opinion is irrelevant because they don’t have any knowledge about what they’re talking about and you are certainly not entitled to say random things and expect peer reviewed essays in return. If someone complains about M+ and says that they are overtuned and that every player should be getting the max reward and then you look and he has done 3 dungeons this expansion and the highest was a +4 you can immediately point that out and stop worrying about having to disprove their complete made up claim.

I don’t even know where you get your ideas that speaking anonymously gives your argument even more credibility. It’s the exact same situation as hiding your logs. We aren’t going to assume you are good.

Is it just me who thinks he is playing a character, just like how Triplex was…?

I am starting to believe he is having a kick out of reading replies from people who gets so worked up on whatever points he makes.

Either way, his posts don’t bother me at all, and it’s funny how some people seem to be obsessed & feel the need to call him out multiple times.

I really doubt it changes anything in the long or short term.

If forum trolls were more interested in what people say than what their profile says, we wouldn’t even need an option to hide profiles. People who complain about being able to hide your profile are the people who attack the person, not the argument.

Generally speaking if you’re engaging someone solely based on the character profile, you’re not really engaging them. I rarely if ever even look at them. The conversation is the important thing.

If you feel people are being “aggressive,” then perhaps they’re not worth engaging in the first place. I don’t mind a good argument when people are discussing the actual topic. And I do somewhat infrequently thank Snowfox for the numerous “discussions” we’ve had over the years. (Thanks Snow.) We rarely convince each other to change our viewpoints, but they’re good, honest arguments and nothing is lost and probably a little bit is gained by seeing someone else’s view point.

If the sole argument you’re facing is “git gud” then it’s probably not worth your time to even reply.

Just want to highlight this. I’m a good example. I’m set to show everything, but there’s no View Profile option for me. :frowning:

The web team is aware and it’s on the list!

If people making comments had experience in what they were talking about, “forum trolls” wouldn’t look at profiles.

People who complain about privacy want their inexperienced opinion to be on par with an experienced opinion, and don’t get why that isn’t the way the world works. If you don’t have experience in what you are talking about, that means you are just parroting the opinion of someone else. Or just making it up completely. Both are grounds for complete dismissal.

That being said…my profile is bugged, and I can’t “unhide” my profile. The box for “Hide my public profile and presence features” is unchecked, yet the button for “view profile” is missing. I have tried checking it, saving it, then unchecking. No change. Oh well.

Crepe you’re a gnome, ofcourse you would say that . No body here takes gnomes seriously

Cheers :beers:

The gnomes do.

Which is all that really matters.

We’re going to be all that’s left anyway.

Ummm… I mean. Yeah, don’t engage.

but will mechagnomes even take other non mechagomes seriously?

Mine doesn’t work and I didn’t hide it.

Also I can’t even select my rogue to post with because apparently my paladin has the same name and the new forums can’t handle that.

Rip. I have 3 by the same name and I can select all of them to post. (Or does it bug out after selection while you’re trying to actually post?)

It bugs on selecting. When I select my rogue my pally get put as my avatar. Feelsbadman.
