Affliction rotation?

I haven’t really touched Warlock back in Cataclysm when it was current outside from a little dabble in Demonology. So I am trying to figure out if I am supposed to apply the DoTs then cast Shadow Bolt, or Drain Soul? I know Drain Soul is also used to replenish Soul Shards you use via Soulburn, but I do not know if I should be using it outside of that.

Casting Shadow Bolt seems to take too long as mobs at the level the Warlock is die pretty quickly via DoTs anyway. Not sure why that bothers me, but whatever.

Or maybe I shouldn’t be touching Affliction and go with Destro or Demo instead? But I kinda like Affliction anyway.

Thanks.

EDIT: Decided to post this here, because it seems like I am not getting much attention in the Warlock discussion forum.

If you’re still leveling, then that’s the issue. Affliction relies heavily on its dots to do the heavy lifting on its dps, which by their nature require ramp up time, something you don’t really have while leveling because things just die too fast

In regards to Shadowbolt vs Drain Soul - generally Shadowbolt will always be stronger, EXCEPT when your target is at or below 25% due to Drain Soul’s execute mechanic. So, in short: apply dots, spam Shadowbolt and refresh dots as needed until 25%, then swap Shadowbolt for Drain Soul

Thanks, that takes a lot off my mind now knowing I wasn’t doing things wrong.
