Affix weeks making people not wanting to play

Next week is bursting, grievous. Almost all healers I know don’t want to play their healers next week, and I’m sure there are a lot more, wanting to switch to their tank/dps alts. Who’s left to heal then? Blizzard removed necrotic, because it made tanks not want to play on those weeks.
It’s time to do something about this mess that are affixes. Certain weeks being absolutley toxic to certain roles or classes. New dungeons/old brought back dungeons having mechanics that are not meant to be played with affixes, and fixes for these coming way too late (or not at all).
It’s time to end this mess blizzard. Just do us and yourself a favor, and get rid of Affixes. At least in the form they are in now.

Priests enjoy bursting weeks for sure. Grievous is nasty for undergeared healers and some tyran boss fights, but besides those cases, it’s a non-existent affix.
The most toxic affix right now is sanguine, imo. In addtion to the dmg loss from spreading sanguine, your fights extend significantly longer if there is one single pool under a singular ranged/casting mob.

The affix is not that bad. I don’t mind some challenges. Just keep the debuff stacks under control. DPS smartly, easy week. I like having different affixes every week. It feels like having a fresh game.

The top 3 toxic affixes this season IMO:

  1. Quaking by mile
  2. Sanguine
  3. Toss between Raging / Bursting

Quaking are 100% unfit for dungeons in modern game and M+ dungeons showed that Blizzard didn’t do enough tests. Quaking is nightmare in the cramped space and can destroy any attempt on bosses where you have to stand in one place. Last boss in RLP is pure toxic with quaking and it can literally does quaking > cloudburst > thundering while healer is trying to keep everyone live. Quaking would be easy vote to quickban and never look back.

Quaking is hardly noticeable unless you’re a caster on a fight that already has frequent cast stops. I’ll give casters a pass here, but for anyone else, if you quaking is any kind of problem you’re playing very badly.

Sanguine is also a non affix, and I’m saying this as a tank. Yes, you can sometimes get victimized by bad timing and have an immobile creature heal for a lot, but most of the time that is avoidable by good play. I can do most of sanguine myself, and if the dps can toss in some interrupts and mob movement abilities once in awhile it’s really low stress.

Raging just needs the tank to pay attention, and bonus points for someone to sooth the worst mobs. Bursting is straight up a check for the presence or absence of brain activity in the dps players. If it’s on the list of annoying it’s because you either are, or have played with dps who are absent brain function.

Grievous+Bursting is still a terrible combination because even as a Priest it’s not worth pressing Mass Dispel unless there’s 4+ stacks because it has a 25s cd and costs 10% of my mana.

So bursting ends up just being constant damage on the group that triggers grievous on 4-5 people that I have to spend more gcds topping to 100%. Then you have grievous on the bosses which is like they’re doing 25% more aoe damage.

It’s a terrible combo, but also anything with explosive is terrible because I have to pop 100+ of them a dungeon while the dps literally have to do none. DPS players basically get to face roll most of the affixes while the tank+healer are dealing with them the most.

Raging is also a terrible affix because non-Evoker/Druids don’t get invited because people want 2+ soothes a dungeon. I stopped doing keys this week because of that

I hate quaking :duck: as a healer more than next weeks affixes tbh. At least with grievous I can bring a shadow priest and tell them to dispel if we hit 4+ stacks, or aoe dispel with Revival. ( or dispel 2 with diffuse magic and dispel )

Makes clutch/emergency healing very harder if it pops when big dmg does or if someone missed a key interrupt at the same time.

It really shouldn’t pop unless in combat. It’s VERY annoying to try to rez someone with quaking, esp with rez being a 7+ second cast.

It still messes up boss stack mechanics, or for moving around. ( AV stack phase on third boss if you quake while the cast goes off it’s most likely a wipe, Hyrja’s stack phase too can get messy and isnt fun to heal through this week. if people use the portal in halls same time and we are quaked while locked into phasing to or out of the dog zone it’s multiple deaths, algeths tree fight is much harder if quaking pops right as germinate happens ( and it will ).

It has bad timing, and just feels bad. At least next week I will be able to pump/heal interrupted by quaking.

Delete quaking or remove the silence aspect of it. Seriously, it’s a terrible mechanic.

I think tyrannical/raging is a fair week…or do you face the same discrimination those weeks too?

enrage + fort is just gross.

When I am tanking, I still hate quaking. When I died suddenly, someone tried to bres me as soon as possible but quaking just interrupt and silence bres. At the point he had available bres after quaking, it’s too late and wiped. Also quaking prevent you to eat foods (drinks include) / res people. Quaking can wipe the group or kill players when people do the mechanics right. For example, 2nd boss in CoS and you need to stack for imps to kill them easily. Quaking prevent that and make it hard to kill imps. Not only that, quaking is likely to happen again on stack mechanics due to timing. Quaking is 100% outdated design and caster have impossible challenge: try to stand still and cast for 1 second.

I love to play VDH. However, VDH outside of Demon Spike and Meta is bit squishy and relying on parry. VDH have a weak passive mitigation and any active mitigation hole can cause rip this week. Fortified + Raging is the worst affix week for VDH and I literally bench VDH. Hence raging is the top 3 for me as VDH.

Raging + fort is the worst comb for squishy tanks like bears, VDH, BDK. It doesnt matter that much for the shield guys.

The toxicity of sanguine isn’t to make the fight more dangerous, it makes the dungeon runs way longer than they should by shear amount of its healing to trash. In a game with a timer, anything that causes the fights longer is the worst. And sanguine is the worst of them, including bolstering and explosives. Bursting, grievous, volcanic are considered the best because they dont harm the timer nor can oneshot the tank, their most important member in the party.

Well they are the only weeks that priests reign supreme. You should ask blizz to make every week is a bursting week

It’s a tyrannical week with no trash HP/DMG modifier, what else is there to spend mana on? Just DPS and mass dispel on CD!

I’d be down for them to overhaul affixes entirely to be honest

We’ve had the same affixes since M+ came out what, like 5-6 years ago? Aside from some tuning here and there and the outright removal of a few

They don’t fit with the current PVE design. This is inarguable, as evidenced by blizzard having to put in little exceptions to quaking on forced stack mechanics at the start of every season because they don’t even play their own game enough to catch those glaring issues

They add nothing to the dungeon besides visual clutter or mechanic overlap which is cheap fake difficulty and isn’t enjoyable to work around when there’s stuff to dodge on top of the mobs putting out things to get out of the way of. Way too many stupid swirlies. They’re more annoying than difficult, only there to piss you off and get in your way.

At the very least I think they could get creative and reward you for adequately dealing with or countering an affix. Say if you don’t get kicked or damaged by quaking it gives a haste buff. You could even drop it on the mobs or boss for damage. Hitting an explosive could damage the pack you’re fighting instead of the party.

it only takes one time to get screwed by an affix to make you want to log off and not do keys anymore that week. Not to mention there’s a massive disparity in the threat some of them pose. Some do pretty much nothing and some can wipe you harder than the actual enemies can.

You’re crazy, those are by far the easiest affixes together with volcanic. Honestly explosive and spiteful are the only problematic ones and storming is just annoying.

Sounds like a lot of healers enjoy…not healer?

Bursting/grievous should be what a healer WANTS to see. They get a chance to flex their hps.

As a healer, quaking has been my most hated affix for 3 expansions because there’s always massive healing checks (especially this expansion) where if you pause healing for even a moment, it’s a wipe. Either standing around waiting for quaking to pass before you can recast will cause you to fall behind, or you delay the wipe by using additional cooldowns to catch up and don’t have them for later in the fight when you need them. It’s like having an affix that requires tanks to stop using mitigation or they get spell locked. It’s stupid. Then, of course, there’s all the stacking requirements.

Grievous is mostly just a nuisance, but can add strain on top of more strain, and bursting ls like dealing with Lesser Shas in TJS this week (fortified, raging). It takes about 2 full wipes for people to figure out not to blow everything up at the same time for the rest of the week.

it’s an interesting week for sure…i’m glad they added it. healers wanted to heal right?

i personally enjoy grievous as a resto druid…tyrannical is going to be very difficult in RLP and HoV, but it’s weeks like this where you can really test your healing power.

this week (fort/raging/quaking) is more difficult than any grievous week we have on the calendar imo :100:

Heres my two cents on this topic.

I think affixes worked back in the earlier days of mythic+ simply because as the game has gone on blizzard has been making mythic+ harder and harder with every new expansion to in my opinion try to keep raiding relevant. The issue is that now there is just so much going on in newer dungeons that adding affixes onto what is already happening just makes a giant mess. Do I think mythic+ would be better if affixes were removed? Yes but you cant really do that because they have become a core part of mythic+ at this point.

In the past, Affixes, except necrotic and pre-nerfed bolstering, werent problematic due to the simpliticity of the dungeons. However, because the current dungeons now already put a lot of stress on all roles, especially tanks and heals, which make players feel suffocated by another layer of stress.

That’s exactly my Point. I absolutley see why they added them years ago. But as time progressed, they’ve added more and more mechanics to dungeons, and the affixes are just too much in some cases. It’s especially bad at the beginning of a season in new dungeons, because of Blizzards terrible testing.

I do understand that there needs to be something that routinely changes up dungeones a bit, so its not the same dungeon over and over again. But the way affix are now… that’s not it. Maybe a better season affix with a random but balanced kiss and curse aspect to it? And something that requires everyone in the party to interact with. Not just healers and Tanks.

The difficulty for healers has already been increased A LOT this expansion, which is a good thing! But it also means that these affixes that are mostly more pressure on the healer need to go.
