Affix weeks making people not wanting to play

We’ve had seasonal affixes in the past that have done this. Both Tormented and Beguiling, though not without their own faults, had rotations in their position / composition that helped shake things up from one week to the next. It’s not impossible to have maybe 3 different seasonal affixes, each a riff on one of the main mechanics of the current end boss, and have those rotate alongside fortified tyrannical to keep things fresh.

One of my biggest issue is that many of the affixes (almost all?) are just ‘well the healer takes care of it’. Grievous/bursting heal through it. Enrage, healer soothes it (and leaves healers without soothe in trouble). Explosions, healers. Quaking hits healers harder than any other spec because we can just hold off on dps for 1-2s and often don’t have a ton of insta-casts to fall back on. Even thundering isn’t much of a help to healers.

If soothe was removed from all healer kits and given just to dps. Or explosions had large hp pools that required focused dps. Or thundering gave a hps/dps buff for 15s AFTER it was cleared.

Apart from volcano and sanguine, they’re pretty much all ‘healer deal with it’ affixes.

Quaking: it has been negative affect on everyone. It’s prevent you to do something outside of combat. Quaking is not fit with the dungeon design and I would 100% vote ban immediately.

Raging: It’s the worst affix for squishy bears, VDH and BDK so it does make players to not want to play them. BTW it does make me not want to play VDH this week because Fortified and Raging are disgusting combos and it can literally one shot me from healthy. Raging encourage us to pick 2+ soothe a dungeon due to design. Jade temple is a pure toxic, raging small sha explode on death is disgusting.

Sanguine: A lot of dungeons love to stay in sanguine pools and keep casting something that is uninterruptible and unstunnable. Example:

  • Big elemental guy in AV and it can heal to full health in one casting
  • A lot of mobs in NO
  • Channelers in RLP and it can heal to full health with uninterruptible and unstunnable
I can give more examples but they are biggest pain with sanguine.

Explosive is a really bad affix because most of the time, healer have to play ‘smack the moles’ with health bars and UI. They need to rework explosive as well.
Many of the affixes are ‘let’s healers do that’ or ‘stop healing during quaking’. Thundering doesn’t do anything positive because we want to clear them immediately due to swirlies and mechanics.

M+ is designed as a timer game, timer relies heavily on the party’s damage output. Healer is the one that contributes the least damage and doesnt hold the most critical role like tanks. That’s why healers have to handle all the chores, they are also what a supporter is meant to do - to support the party.

Well raging should just be deleted. M+ is scaling content essentially mobs are always raging as you go up in keys. Affixes need to be removed or made into positive boons. The dungeons will auto changes as they scale. Mechanics that could be ignored or cheese will need to be addressed as the content scales. M+ already scales infinitely, we don’t need affixes with the amount of individual mob mechanics that have been added.

Maybe in legion when there we no mechanics except bosses but every pull in a dungeon has some mechanic that needs to be addressed. Change for the sake of change is not good nor does it “spice up” the dungeons it just makes then tedious and annoying at best or just miserable and not worth playing at worst.

Raging should be removed as it eliminates a good chunk of dps for the ones with soothe. How many dps warriors can find a group this week ? A proper party needs AoE ccs, brez, purge during normal weeks, and this week it requires soothe, classes without AoE ccs, soothe, lust, brez like warrior struggle to find a spot.
Everytime I list the key there are 1837473 warriors desperate in queue, obviously I decline them all since I need soothe, lust, purge, AoE cc.

I’m going to nitpick this as a healer. Nope nope nope nope nope nope.

Hey, remember when Grievous didn’t remove a stack on direct heals and dealt a % of your health instead of a flat amount? I do. :dracthyr_uwahh_animated:

Hey, remember when Bursting did a % of your health and was considered a general debuff, which meant there was no way to remove it? You HAD to take the damage. I do. :dracthyr_uwahh_animated:

Hey, remember when Quaking always hurt you regardless of whether you were casting? I do. :dracthyr_uwahh_animated:

Hey, every Holy Priest (including me) ever, remember Overflowing? :dracthyr_uwahh_animated:

Quaking no longer has a place in the modern game. They continuously have to hotfix some negative interaction about it so it doesn’t instantly wipe your group. An affix that requires that many hotfixes should just not have been there to begin with. It was a decent affix in older expansions but it has outgrown its welcome. Its existence is worsened by the addition of Thundering. Thundering + Quaking + some random boss mechanic is not fun.

I’ve said it before, this season has kinda ruined Mythic Plus for me. Not because of the difficulty increase or the healer changes, but it is the overwhelming amount scenarios caused by overlapping affixes and mechanics that require me to have pinpoint precision or I have to incorrectly respond to a mechanic or affix to correctly respond to a different mechanic or affix.

Before some moron tells me to git good or something equally dumb, I have always enjoyed Mythic Plus since it began. My issues with the system do not necessary involve the difficulty of keys or how much harder “healers have to heal” now. It is just no longer fun for me when you combine the affixes with the newer dungeon designs. After dealing with the system since legion, I would just like the system as a whole to be revamped so it will feel fresh and rewarding again. Difficulty included because I like the challenge, but I don’t enjoy how unrewarding the current system feels to play.

I remember these. Some of the pulls in Shrine of the Storm on bursting week, ugh.

Just for the record. One of the hardest keys in the current rotation is nerfed Hov, a Legion dungeon. CoS, another Legion dungeon can be scuffed before or during first boss with a simple brain fart. (Patrols everywhere, tight grouping, can’t miss mechanics, un stackable adds and the old favorite, forgetting to jump for arcane lock down.) The 2 hardest dungeons in S4 were return to Karazhan, the Legion ones.

No has a similar area near the storm boss, but these are 4-5 mob pulls with some casts and 1 group nuke.

There isn’t a single pull in AV I’d consider super hard. Well, maybe the optional 4 crystal fury one, but I figure it out for Ppal.

RLP is a dungeon where you can’t carry someone who doesn’t know mechanics, but imo that’s acceptable.

AA isn’t really that involved either. The bird and ele bosses are tough, but none of the trash is all that whacky.

Anyone remember BRH or how DHT would just murder random players if you didn’t have Prydaz? What about the maze that was Arcway? Was anyone’s favorite dungeon SotT? Are we really saying that the dungeons in the current pool are rougher than early Cathedral?

Can we please remove the tint from this hindsight?

Thundering and Quaking have no interaction whatsoever. I’m so tired of people talking about some mythical problem with Thundering and Quaking and it just doesn’t exist. For about the millionth time, Thundering gives you 15 seconds to figure out where to clear it, and you have several seconds to spread out. Either clear before you spread or after. In the absolute worst case scenario, you stack to clear Thundering and take 1 other person’s Quaking for a relatively small amount of damage. This is such a complete non issue.

Right on time. Couldn’t resist could you.

I left most of your post alone. I’m just tired of people imagining an issue with Thundering and Quaking when they have nothing at all to do with one another. It’s been happening all season and I’ve lost all my patience for it.

Might be a reason for that. People hate it. Not a good point to defend it with.

You can hate Quaking all you want, and I probably won’t contest your reasons for it. You can hate Thundering all you want, and I probably won’t contest your reasons for it. I’m not defending Quaking or Thundering.

If you say that Quaking and Thundering play poorly together, it’s just flat out wrong, and I will contest that all day long. They have nothing to do with each other.

You are the only one.

IMO this is the laziest/dumbest affix they have ever designed - and that include skiddish. What DPS/tank likes waiting for their healer to drink because they blasted their CDs on bursting?

DPS like to blast AOE and kill everything. It’s fun. This affix is designed specifically to prevent the most fun thing in the game.

Just because there is an answer to two different affixes interacting with each other doesn’t mean that doing said answer is a fun experience. Invalidating other people’s experiences doesn’t make your opinion correct either, no matter how hard you try to make it so. You do you tho. Leave me out of it.

Yes, that is true. But Thundering and Quaking don’t interact. If they are interacting you are doing one or both of them incorrectly, at which point, it doesn’t matter if the other one is present or not.

wut?

One requires you to spread, the other wants you to stack.

That’s not interacting/interfering?

Looks like interacting to me. Dunno tho. Apparently direct opposite solutions aren’t interacting or interfering with each other. Who knew. Guess we are all wrong.
