I’ve been playing hellcaller almost exclusively since the expansion dropped. And i’ve not been disappointed at all. A lot of the damage is fluff yes, but that fluff is extreme crowd pressure. I easily outdamage everyone in any group setting (we are talking bgs here but I’m not trying to brag) sometimes even by 2 or 3x second place. Most scoreboards look something like, me 450m damage, 20 killing blows, 2nd place 150m damage. Rotting groups of people with the right setup as hellcaller is very fun, effective, and is as close to bc/wotlk warlock (my fav time for aff lock) as I can get. The last few tauren mill brawls I have done ended with more over 500m damage higher than 2nd place. The spec doesn’t shine so well at single target no, but it’s group pressure is insane.
I have given up on the warlock class already.
When affliction finally had decent survival vs melee + decent single target burst and procs, they nerfed it 4 times in a row.
I’m investing my time on other classes like shadow priest, mage, and hunter.
At least shadow and fire are being significantly buffed, and there’s likely more to come.
Yea I switched to Hell Caller last week and redid gear for crit since wither works wonders with crit and the damage is insane. Even in arena I barely have to cast UA and the rot is just way to real
The worst thing about the nerfs is I was purchasing mastery pvp gear to focus on affliction, but I suspect these huge nerfs are going to kill the spec for PvP and put it far behind destruction. Now I’m stuck with the mastery weapon until the conquest cap gets unlocked in another month or 2 :(.
I find it rather interesting that only UHDK and Aff got hit with nerfs this hard. UHDK wasn’t overtuned at all, and the part of affliction really causing problems was its survivability. Despite this, because both of them kinda innately pad their numbers just by throwing dots around, they get slammed with needlessly massive nerfs. Meanwhile feral druids somehow come away from this spotless.
Pretty sure the devs didn’t even look at the damage being done on an individual basis. They just looked at that end results screen and went “yeah, let’s ruin two specs real quick.”
Though I agree with the general sentiment, UHDK is overturned and warlock survival is not its strength.

Having high DPS on the end screen does not equate to what you seem to think it does. The damage on UHDK’s dots was insufficient to get even remotely close to stressing healers, and death coil’s damage only appeared egregious because they decided to make it cleave. Their changes indicate a failure to take into account damage to the individual. They essentially dealt with a problem created by wanton cleaving by destroying a spec’s single-target damage.
Some classes do in fact have a pretty difficult time actually killing aff warlocks (mostly at lower rating, but that’s clearly what these nerfs are centered on), specifically because warlocks in general are quite durable. Though, with their damage so savagely curtailed, people will be having far less of an issue putting them down. It doesn’t matter if you can soak damage pretty well if you are no longer capable of dishing it out.
Attrition until all your attrition is wiped out by dispel and remove curse. But luckily we don’t have to worry about Priest auto botting removal right?
