Of course I do. Thrall’s Horde still not having made it past that point is the result of bad, inconsistent and biased writing but that’s the truth, there’s no denying that.
For the record, I think the Kaldorei shouldn’t be asked to “move on” either. Like that’s just weird
Everything we do is because “the plot demands it”. The reason the Horde has has to do “Evul things” is because the Horde was the evil faction/had failings they never addressed. Where as even the Alliance at their worse still tried to do what is right(hence why Jaina let her father die/why the Alliance never answered Kul Tiras’ pleas for retaliation even if it mean losing them as members)
Maybe because the Alliance just never started most of the wars and generally has suffered more then the Horde because of these wars?
Good. The Horde should make up for what they have done. The Alliance is not asking for submission, but it is asking for atonement.
To hell with atonement narratives. Horde fans have been shamed and humiliated enough throughout the expansions, especially during the arc that started with MoP and ended with SL. No atonement but a complete shift in the writing of the Horde so it won’t go through “innately aggressive and immature faction that ought to be contained and kept in check by the Alliance” BS ever again
Two autonomous, different in values and philosophies but equally worthy factions that may clash with each other due to conflicting interests and may cooperate on other occasions. That’s the way to go.
When has Blizzard ever cared whether they pissed their players with regards to story content? They clearly have a story they want to tell, and they will tell it one way or another.
Easy for you to comfortably sit there and say that when blizz goes out it’s way to cater to alliance players and make sure their faction is the good guys always
Idk I feel like the writers have been listening a bit more to the fans recently. Several aspects of DF do go in the right direction, especially when it comes to delivering lower scale narratives
In order for that to happen the Horde as a faction would have to change. And hence why BfA ends with it changing. Like it or not Sylvanas was always going to be a wrinkle in any attempts at making the Horde more like the “good guys” and well now she is gone.
But it doesn’t need to change or become alliance lite. Blizz just needs to remember what the horde from WC 3 on was supposed to represent and write them accordingly
The Horde from Warcraft 3 stole Alliance ships and decide to not leave Ashenvale once they realize they were in someone else’s home. Not to mention they had no qualms about killing Quillboar and taking their land.
Lets not forget Grom drank demon blood a second time(even after being warned by a troll witch doctor) after aggroing every Alliance in sight in the mission prior and Thrall needed help, from Jaina and the alliance, to free him.
See the problem with BfA is that the good guys of the Horde, that is to say Baine for example, are Alliance types of good guys. Anduin types of good guys.
There could be other metrics. There could be Horde types of good guys. That’s how I’d describe Talanji for example : proud, free-spirited, bold and quick to act, but also protective, reasonable and caring.
You know that could easily describe an Alliance character. Heck, you are describing Jaina.(or Alleria, they both have plenty of the character traits you just mentioned)
It’s not even that there’s an “alliance type of good guy”
They’re just straight up sidelining 2/3rds of the OG horde races, 3/4ths if you count goblins, and making former Alliance characters and Baine (who is Jaina’s pursedog) the focus.
Most players could probably not name the current Orc/Troll leaders. Gazlowe’s introduction as leader was so half-assed they didn’t even bother to give him his own model.
So you admit that its Good Race/Evil Race writing then? You just make vague excuses for it when its framed as a WRITING FLAW of how both factions are Handled. Especially on the Blue side. Where Alliance Races are Good, Horde Races are Evil, no matter how much Blizz has to twist the framing and setting to maintain it. Which is why they’ve several times used Peace Treaties in in between expac books to invalidate Alliance aggressive acts to ensure “The Horde starts the War”. They did this both between WotLK/Cata & Cata/MoP.
Like, I openly stated that if not for Blizz’s absurd whitewashing of events, to the point that even the Horde is not allowed to react to them, both the Garrosh & 4th War Conflicts were proceeded by almost exclusively Alliance acts of Aggression. But Blizz twists the narrative to maintain some absurd purity test so much, that even the people they’re being aggressive to (and attacking) aren’t allowed to react to those attacks. Thus, the Horde is forced to start each of these Wars … for no valid reason. Nor any real means to do it when they do.
I get very different vibes from both of them but Jaina is definitely more interesting than non-characters such as Baine or Anduin (idk about “reasonable” though lol). Same for Alleria. She’s rather interesting. She doesn’t feel like your typical Alliance character though.
Yes Orcs as a people/culture are actually given surprisingly little focus and characterization for a race that’s supposed to be the Horde equivalent to Humans (maybe that’s due to post-WoD Orc fatigue). And don’t get me started on Gazlowe. We all know that the reason why he was appointed leader of the Bilgewater is that there was no relevant Bilgewater character outside of Gallywix. Sad.
