I’ve recently returned to retail from Wrath/SOD. Both versions of Classic run fine and I typically run the same or similar addon suites. However, I’ve been having relatively severe screen stuttering in retail. After swapping to DirectX 11 (as per another thread), it got a bit better but wasn’t entirely fixed.
I read in another thread that it might be a corrupt UI, so I renamed my WTF, Cache and Interface folders and that fixed the issue. Prior to doing that, I uninstalled both addon directories I use (WoWUP and CurseForge). Seeing that the issue was fixed, I wanted to slowly reinstall my addons starting with some relatively benign ones (Simulationcraft and OPIE). First, I deleted the renamed WTF, Cache and Interface folders.
Immediately after installing those two addons, the game started stuttering again. Additionally, my OPIE settings were still active (custom rings were established and keybinds set already). So that leads me to believe that somehow deleting those folders didn’t get rid of all of the data? Is that a possibility? Is there a way to reinstall my addons clean?
I’m going into my first Heroic raid tonight to trial with a guild now that I’ve returned. I haven’t raided without WeakAuras, BigWigs or Plater in a very long time. I’d love to resolve this prior to that raid so I can get my WAs and UI set up how I like them.
Full UI reset is pretty simple, assuming you aren’t using any external addon managers or onedrive:
Delete the cache, interface and WTF folders within the WoW directory(every version of WoW will have its own set)
Once that’s done, launch the game and log in
After you’re logged into a character, run the command /console cvar_default
Then run /reload to make sure it saves the settings to the server end of things
Close the client
Relaunch the client and redo all your settings and stuff
A lot of addons mess with hidden cvars that aren’t directly exposed in the settings. Most of those changes then get saved to the servers, so your client will just keep using those changed values, instead of the true defaults. Those commands should reset them.
Thank you for this! Is it safe to assume that CurseForge is an external addon manager that you’re referencing? Do you know if I can still use CurseForge and do this reset above?
Yes, but be aware that it might automatically reinstall addons that might also then automatically change those settings again as soon as you log in with the addon enabled.
Your safest bet is to disable curseforge and manually download and install the addons one at a time until you figure out exactly which ones are triggering the issue vs. it having your whole list reinstalled at the same time automatically.
