Some of these addons I use are essential, like Pallypower, but I swear that every developer wants their addon to scan everything about the players in my raid. I don’t remember it being like this in Vanilla. It gets to the point where the game stutters every second in between pulls. I’m kind of grateful that most addons disable those scans during combat, or it would be unbearable.
Besides upgrading my computer or disabling those essential addons, is there anything I can do to fix the little stutters I experience? Anything I can enable or disable in Windows or WoW.exe to speed up that processing? I have an SSD drive, so this shouldn’t be happening. But next week I’m going to try realtime processing in Task Manager to see if that helps.
Please let me know if you find a solution. I have been having this exact same problem and I only have about 12 add-ons, yet turning each one off individually STILL produces the stuttering. It only seems to go away when ALL the add-ons are disabled and it’s really frustrating. I’m using over 50 add-ons in Retail and I do not have this problem at all.
Go into the menu > System >Advanced > Graphics card.
re-select your graphics adapter even if its correctly selected then hit apply; this ususally does it for me till I Alt-tab or mouse over the screen 2 at all…
Or the stuttering is caused by the interactions of two addons.
Here’s your test situation:
Turn off all addons.
Start turning addons on, until it starts stuttering.
Note the last addon turned on (Candidate A).
Turn off all addons.
Turn on Candidate A.
Start turning addons on, one by one, until the stuttering comes back.
Note the last addon turned on (Candidate B), then turn it off.
Continue adding addons and see if the stuttering comes back, with any others.
One of the issues is that sandboxed nature of the addon suite is that two addons doing the same thing can cause issues when interacting, by the nature of how the functions are hooked. So you may need to turn off some lesser needed addon, to retain Pally Power etc.
Telling people to simply “use fewer add-ons” doesn’t help anyone get to the correct solution to their problem. For example, I’m actually using fewer add-ons than 6, but I still am having a similar problem to the OP’s. I understand that my problem doesn’t make sense, which is PRECISELY why I have come to the forums and posted in this relevant thread…
Anything that involves the UI is gonna lead to lag. I don’t know why, it just does.
Bag add ons like Adibag, bagon if left open leads to fps drops.
ElvUI if you got animated portraits leads to massive fps drops.
Add ons that do scans will lag out the game (think TSM/Auctioneer) but it shouldnt lag out the entire game. That means there’s either issues on the back end, or its the add-on’s fault.
It’s happened before in the beginning of TBC, with auction add ons causing people post-scans to lag out and be stuck at 15fps until they either /reload or logged off. Maybe this bug has returned? It’s the only thing I can think of if you check all your add ons and see there’s no issues.
