Addons disabled

i just recieved the 16gb download yesterday. and all my addons are now disabled or nonfunctional. Is this a common thing, or will they be made available after the patch?

You probably have to update them.

There’s a button that will let you load out of date addons. But use with caution! Out of date addons often break things.

Here is my method:

  1. Update any addons you can.
  2. Look at what’s left and decide which ones you need enough to take the risk.
  3. Use the checkboxes to disable everything else that’s still out of date.
  4. Then check the box for load out of date addons.
  5. If you play for a while and things seem to work, you can try re-enabling other addons. Or if things don’t work, disable all your out of date addons and then try turning them back on one at a time to find the one that isn’t behaving.

Repeat daily for a while around new patches because addon authors do frequent updates at such times.

We allow addons, but we do not support them.

It is quite common for them to need to be updated after a patch. The addon creators have to adjust for changes made in the game.

Glitches happen occasionally that wipe all addon setitngs. (I’ve had it happen after a game crash a couple times) To protect myself, I created a folder on my desktop named WTFbackup. Any time I make addon config changes, I copy my entire WTF folder into the backup, and give it a sequential number, like WTF10, WTF11, etc. So, it it ever blows up again, I just delete the game WTF folder, copy the most recent backup over, and remove the number part of the name. All settings restored, hours saved.

Many time, the only thing an addon needs to have updated to be comparible with a new patch is the version number. A lot of add on authors don’t release an update if that’s all that is required and depend upon users having the load out of date addons box checked.

An addon like BugSack, which counts and categorizes LUA errors by addon can be useful for determining which addons need an update due to broken functionality.
