Addon/API changes

Its how we got Skyriding. Its literally why we can still fly at all.

It’s both. They only reigned that in for Dragonflight because the game was basically dead. Some of us only came back because we thought they had finally learned their lesson. Well, they haven’t. I’ve already unsubbed, haven’t preordered the expansion and not going to. I have 3 months of game time left and then I’m gone for good. I will not come back again.

At this point, even if they backtrack it may not be enough to keep me as a customer. The fact that they have ignored feedback so far might be enough to keep me from coming back.

So the proof you have is because Blizzard says so? That’s no proof at all. Blizzard isn’t being honest about any of this. It started because Blizzard was lazy and didn’t want to adds the things to their own UI, the things they now say should have been there from the start. Well, addon developers have made amazing solutions to their laziness and now they want to take them away. I don’t buy what they’re saying and it’s amazing anyone does.

Rofl you can’t be serious, this isn’t even a controversial take it is well known blizzard has said this is why they are doing this.

From the interview with Ion:

Addons and WeakAuras

  • The arms race between Blizzard and Addon developers doesn’t create a great experience for players.

  • Many groups spend hours of raiding tuning WeakAuras and assignments instead of… playing the game.

  • The example given was Broodtwister Ovi’nax from Nerub-ar Palace.

  • According to the interview, Blizzard is looking to remove more functionality from Addons and WeakAuras inside raids in the future in favor of more in-game sources of encounter information.

  • Blizzard is having to design encounters assuming everyone is using cutting-edge addons and WeakAuras, which leads to incredibly complex fights, which leads to more players having to use addons and WeakAuras.

I mean the proof is in… use the addons. They do the figuring out for you and prompt you exactly what to do

That is NOT what you claimed they said.

I want a quote of them saying

That’s exactly what that means. They trivialize the content. If you have used weak auras you know they do exactly that. It reads what is happening in game and gives a prompt of what to do.

Nope.

You made a statement, and then said it was from Blizzards own mouths.

And then quoted NOTHING like it.

Lol what. You sound derranged

haven’t heard that one before.
…especially considering so many people hated it when it was introduced (and threatened to leave unless the only junk flying was returned)

that sounds more like a WoD thing, when they tried to ground us.
dragonriding has nothing to do with that?

Meanwhile, I imagine there are a whole lot of addon creators who are secretly breathing a huge sigh of relief at not having the pressure of needing to devote huge chunks of their life to constantly updating addons which they started as a fun project years ago, and have had it turn into something which has taken over their lives.

I don’t remember anymore what X-perl had, but you can’t say ElvUi only adds animations.

As for your for go play Mario brothers, that’s not the point. It addsfun to the game, quirkiness that lets players customize the game they way they want.

I’m not going to play those games, it was a statement made in frustration. I want to play wow but I want to play the way I’ve played for 20 years.

Players taking away their subs and money does hurt Blizzard and it is the best way to show Blizzard we are serious about changes they are making.

Ion wanted to remove flight.

We revolted.

Skyriding became the compromise.

I didn’t.

You glossed entirely over what I was saying.

I was asking what x-perl used to do, which the base UI isn’t capable of now.
…and you don’t remember.

Which stands to reason that after a few years of additional functionality getting baked into the stock UI, you probably won’t remember what your other combat addons were doing.

4 years later?
lol no.
the “compromise” was pathfinder.

lol

yes

Because they were still bleeding subs because of pathfinder.

What other logic can be used for Ion going “I want to remove flight because it trivializes the content” to “Here, have flight literally as soon as you reach level 20 for old players, and during a quest line for new ones*.”?

if that was the case, why would it still be a thing?

people who want to use janky flight still need to jump through hoops.

the logic that movement has been constantly enhanced, with levels lowered, since… at least Wrath?

I don’t gloss over it. Let’s see, X-perl added data texts they doesn’t have in game, customizable portraits, moveable bars and UI, customizable icons, there is a ton more. And no, them adding it to the default UI isn’t going to make people forget about addons that are gone, because they never do it right.

Dude play the game however you want, but why does it matter to you how I want to play the game? I’m proving the feedback Blizzard asked for, I don’t have to like the changes and can voice that. People can adapt to the changes but why force them to?

Because Skyriding. We are going in circles.

Or Ion realized that his dumb dream of ‘no flight’ will never happen, and instead chose to give us what we want.

it was like …a 4 expansion gap.

that’s not a circle.

we are going in circles, with this argument.

It took them four xpacs to get Skyriding done. Bet.

so… they wanted to remove flight, and the answer was… more flight?
