Addon removal would be a bad idea

I hate add ons and wouldn’t use any of it wasn’t required by raid teams.

Fights that really benefit from addons are rare, even on Mythic.

I’ve only ever seen one fight that I really felt couldn’t be done without an addon (Mythic Queen Azshara).

People on this forum, who don’t raid overstate their importance.

The point that many people conveniently ignore anytime the discussion comes up about limiting addons is that many of the top addons need to be functionally added to the base game. Simple as that.

ive never understood why this is so highly debated. if you wanna use em, use em. if ya dont wanna use em, dont. seems so simple to me some people “need” them to be able to play certain thing and some dont. i dont see how someone useing an addon effects someone else at all so who cares let them have their cake, dont eat any if ya dont want any.

Why do you need a damage meter? All you’re doing is micromanaging other players.

i might not want to play w/o some addons. How would I know who to dispel (big debuffs)? How would I shut up the talking heads (be quiet)? How would I know upcoming boss mechanics & prepare for them (DBM)? What about the map (handy notes)? With all the paying attention I do to others (I am a healer), how will I know when I need to move (GTFO)? What about details? Or the mini-map button bag? Or customizing plater? Or getting data to sim my character???

Never gonna happen so you don’t need to worry about it.

Asmongold tells his sycophants to come and make a big deal about it.

That’s all it is.

Because challenging content have a lot of dps checks?

I use a damage meter on the target dummies when I have 2 trinkets and want to see which is better.

Addon’s aren’t going anywhere.

If Blizzard doesn’t like an addon or feel that an addon is giving way to much of an advantage they restrict the API to break that addon (or addons like it).

Which is usually counter-productive. Their ‘private aura’ crusade in Dragonflight just made addons more important, for example.

Because ‘private auras’ are all about hiding things from the players - including on the default UI.

Based on your respond you don’t need a damage meter inside of dungeons and raids. So, it should be non-factional for mythics, raids, and PvP

I mean in a perfect world no-addons would be nice. But WoW isn’t like FFXIV and is designed for addons, more specifically combat addons.

I don’t use a damage meter in dungeons or raids, that’s what combat logs are for. So makes no difference to me.

I’d like to believe Ion is intelligent enough to know removing addons will kill the game.

Ion just points fingers at addons when he needs somebody to blame.

It’s not that he’s doing a terrible job, it’s because addons MADE HIM DO IT.

I’d like to see a modelled game without addons. As a programmer, I’ve messed with them from day one, no expert, and no famous addons, but enough to get things done myself.

We know what the problems are with addons. While I don’t think it’s likely that all addons will be removed, I do see a chance that there are more and more new features which do not present with a managed API. This I think would be a good thing.

Rather than saying no addons, we should be thinking what we can remove while making the game better. Some addons should have the API blocked or removed, but programmatically, not based on a “addons 1-yes 2-no” vote for everything.

Hey guys, did you know that in PvP, using certain addons allows you to see exactly where your opponent is on the map? You can also track their defensive abilities, like interrupts and damage mitigation talents. In any other game, this would be considered cheating or hacking

My advice, if you care about PvP, is to go play a game that takes PvP seriously.
