Addon Channel Spamming - it's against TOS

It’s allowed, spamming general chat isn’t allowed though, obviously.

So, then everything is cool then. Nothing is breaking the TOS.

Umm yes it can. Even with the addon announcements I see people asking questions (rare) and getting responses, people manually announcing rares, general chat about the zone/game. However, sometimes chat can be very dead and all I see is rare announcements - both types - just depends on the time of day. Not sure what great conversations were happening on your realm that are now being somehow blocked by this.

Almost, spamming general is clearly breaking the ToS.

You seem do be redefining “spam” as “anything I don’t want to see”.

No, I seem to be defining it the same way Blizzard defines it. lol

No, you’re not. If people using an addon to call out rares is spam, then people manually calling out rares is also spam. You seem to want any communication to be classified as spam simply so you don’t have to look at it.

Just want to point out that there has been zero confirmed instances of people being silenced/banned for using this addon. There was another post saying people on reddit mentioning it but I scanned it for the past month and there is nothing there.

Anyone that has a problem with the addon could always type /leave general.

I don’t want anything to be considered spam, I think the rules are dumb. But we can’t sit here and pick and choose which rules to follow only when they fit our narrative. If you have ever reported someone on the forum or in-game, you’re feeding into the automated system that is probably in place right now that silenced all these players.

I think it’s stupid, tbh. I think it’s stupid in game and on the forum.

I don’t ever see spam. At most, i may see 2 messages for the same rare - and the are almost always minutes apart. Nothing spammy about it.

What is the big deal about addons anouncing rares in say Mechagon or Nazjatar?

Really what are people talking about ? If they are grouped up most likely they are using party chat or are guildies using Discord.

Matter of fact other then those situations what are people paying attention to general chat for anyways . Do these announcements cut into their complaining about other things ? Does it interfere with them doing stupid things in chat like going Anl [insert random cheevo].

Please explain how something like a rare addon announcing multiple times in the chat dialog box is a problem and if it is why are you spending your time looking at it and not actually out there playing the game.

Nobody can really explain it, people just get offended and bothered by it so they report it. Much like the mass flagging issue here on the forum.

So pretty much it is a bunch of people that are already miserable and are not happy unless others are miserable too.

Good old misery loves company.

This would explain the mass reporting, yes, I just don’t wanna say something like that before I get mass reported again and get suspended for something like harassment even though it’s a simple blanket statement.

Why did this need a new thread? We already have a thread on this topic that is active and posted 10h before this one.

it’s abuse of the TOS and Addon’s should not be allowed to spam chat channels, period. They can easily be blocked and force the designers to make a channel for the use of the addon. It’s simple

But it’s not abuse of anything. And it’s not “spam” just because you don’t want to see it. It helps people, something you seem to be against for some insane reason.

The fact that this hasn’t been done yet should be a giant hint that Blizzard doesn’t have a problem with these addons. They broke guild invite spam addons so they don’t work below level 20. They could just as easily break any auto-chat addons if they do desired.

I don’t use an addon to share information about a rare. I use a macro, it’s much more lightweight. So even if addons created their own communication channel, those of us who use macros instead will still be posting to general chats. :slight_smile:

If anyone would like, it was actually shared from someone else in another thread a while ago.

/script px, py = C_Map.GetPlayerMapPosition(C_Map.GetBestMapForUnit("player"), "player"):GetXY()
/run t="target" SendChatMessage(format ("%s: %.1f, %.1f; HP: %i%%",UnitName(t),px*100,py*100,(UnitHealth(t)/UnitHealthMax(t)*100)),  "CHANNEL", nil, 1);

It doesn’t bother me in the slightest. If anything, it helps me get to rares when they spawn. Stop crying.
