There are both good healers and bad healers but heal tanks are the reason why i can tolerate tanking Lfg and potential disasters. Back before the days of heal tanks you just got whittled away to death in tank specs with no guarantee on both mythic+ healers and fresh toons, being self sufficient in content i over gear or able to stall in a bg is nice. I had a run in with a spiteful player the other day in a mythic 13 with three go go dps who wanted bigger pulls. And by the charts it looked like we could handle it, but halfway in the spiteful player started refusing to heal anyone he disliked in a mythic 13 and literally going “Ooh you don’t LIKE how i afked for four minutes for a smoke break? Go screw yourself and seehow you do with no heals” then he jumped into the fire and caused like four wipes and would start deliberately troll pulling and causing wipes with no heals on the tank while only healing the dps to not get kicked. I was literally dealing with a game thrower who was salty at just mentioning him being afk on that one nasty mother lode pull and popped my cds to notice 47% of all his healing went to himself, 17% to the next dps and 14% to the next. I was running on self heals and health potions since the gamethrower deliberately killed a 13 key over being called out for afking but guess what? Since we we able to heal, we were still able to salvage the dungeon without him. i came up at like literally 78% of my own heals doing a paltry 26k hps while also being tied in overall damage to the Hunter to compensate for a actively malignant player and the response was? “Tank u suck why u kite at 190k-> 300k hp omg”. Stares at 56.5% total healing for boss encounter and spite healer literally WALKING into the bullets to die
Worst part is key died by exactly 15.625 seconds because of that. So yeah, while I’ve had generally a good experience with healers and finally got a decent 440 dps going on i hopped into some heroic ep out of curiosity and hybrid tanked and dps as the pugs went. And then on the other hand there are disaster tanks I’ve met leveling who tank in cloth heirlooms on a dk for some reason.
Good idea but it will not help. Biggest problem is rewards for tanking this late in the expansion. There is no reason to queue so that is partly why queue times are longer now. Why should I queue heroic that drops 385 gear when i am in 445 gear. Still plenty of tank specs we dont need others till we solve the problem of getting people to tank in general.
logical fallacy. I am not implying that the problem is a shortage of tank specs. I’m stating that the problem is a shortage of tanks and a potential way to help improve that problem is more tanking options. Saying I’m implying something when it’s clearly stated otherwise is a weak attempt at a counterpoint.
Let’s take another trip down memory lane to 5 minutes ago when it’s been stated multiple times that no one is claiming this would totally resolve the tanking shortage, just that it would potentially help make it better than it is currently.
25 man raid with only 2-3 spots for tanks. It doesn’t matter how many classes and specs you throw out there as a tank, you’re still sitting with that particular bottleneck.
Basically it’s statistically more advantageous to play a DPS over anything else.
We must be reading different things then because from what I’ve been reading, adding more tank specs is magically supposed to fix the problem because the choices is the problem…
They have been “improving” on the situation for close to 15 years yet here we are. Probably the biggest improvement they did for the tanking situation was reduce raid sizes from 40 to 25. Technically that increased tank spots in raids and improved the ratios.
Except it won’t. We could have 20 different tank specs and those queue times will still be long. I’ve sat in a raid for 30 minuites waiting for a tank despite there being multiple people in that spec that could click one button so we could start the raid, yet they don’t.
OW could have 30 different tanks and the problem will still remain. DO you see how adding more won’t do anything?
What I’ve always thought is that they should offer cool races on both factions with a tanking advantage (like extra dodge or armor) to promote more experienced people tanking.
It’s trivial, unfortunately. Tauren racial used to be good but a bunch of Alliance players complained so they nerfed it in the great gutting of Horde racials at the start of WoD. They’ve never fixed it afterwards.
Night Elves literally get extra dodge, and Dwarves’ Stoneform is invaluable for removing tank debuffs (especially if they stack).
Throne of Thunder was Dwarf Paladin paradise, since the boss mechanics were so heavily based on bleeds. Between Stoneform, Divine Shield, and BoP, Dwarf Paladins could literally 1-tank some bosses.
Hey, switching specs brain dead easy is one of the best things offered in this game. Imagine in classic only warriors having no tax for switching because their dps talent tree is all you need for tanking!
More tank specs will not lead to more tanks. The same people playing tanks would likely shift around some, but people who wanna dps or heal aren’t all of a sudden going to be come interested in tanking because a new tank spec arrives.
