Additional rewards combat the tank shortage

You need to provide something to encourage more ppl to pick up tanking.

For both raiding and M+, tanking is without a doubt the most important role in a party/raid, and to most people, it is not the most fun role. If any devs actually tried LFG (I know right, what a silly thing to expect devs to do), you’d experience what all players experience right now which is a huge shortage of tanks.

Some ideas right off the top of my heads:

  1. Faster vault completion for tanks? like when you tank a +15 key, you get 2 instead of 1 credit into the vault? or maybe 1.5. You get the idea.

  2. more IO for tanking?

  3. This is a easy one, how about more gold?

  4. More currencies? (for example valor).

Notice i didn’t mention additional loot. Some form of additional loot incentive could work well i think, but this can also easily get out of hand.

How about making tanking fun, instead? You say that it’s not fun for people, which is a problem, but then don’t address how to make it fun.

A good start would be if the DPS players would stop their eternal war against tanks having fun.

EVERY TIME tanks start having fun, whiny DPS flood the forums about it and demand that Blizzard shuts it down.

Echoing Void, vengeance mechanic, every time tanks become remotely competitive in arena, etc. etc. etc. etc.

This is so painfully true. Dps always complain that there’s not enough tanks but they also wont tolerate tanks doing any damage. Vengeance was so much fun and I dont think i’ve competitively tanked anything since it was removed.

So this means that tanks will do less dungeons… and somehow, you think that will combat the tank shortage?

That’s just silly.

Actually, all the rest of the ideas are a bit silly.

This is the correct answer.

This is a great point…

But I would even accept a change in dungeon design so that tanks are not required to maintain encyclopedic knowledge of every path, pull, boss ability for 9 dungeons and multiple raid tiers

Or this beauty from the end of BfA.

Note that it wasn’t calling for a nerf to Echoing Void. Just specifically a nerf to Echoing Void FOR TANKS. And they got what they wanted. They always do.

And then they have the gall to turn right around and wonder, “But… but what happened to the tanks…?”

They should make a seasonal M+ affix where tank-specced characters cannot be the first person to tag mobs. So other specs have to pull, instead.

It would be glorious.

Instead, they make affixes like Prideful that are a miserable chore for tanks.

It’s ppl that stop ppl from enjoying tanking. It’s that simple.

Tanking is such a thankless job. As a tank/heal main for years. Tanks have it way harder than any other role in harder content, imo.

Some of us don’t have the luxury to waste our life playing 12 hours a day and know all the ins and outs.

Ppl get so gross.

I know some ppl want to sit back and chill and tanking isn’t for everyone. But, in my 10+ years that is my xp.

This is a big one. It feels like most of the affixes are specifically there to annoy tanks the most.

I don’t think it’s really serendipitous that these threads always pop up on necrotic weeks lol.

Side note, but Necrotic is so pitifully sad now that it only lasts 4 seconds before falling off (they nerfed it AGAIN this season). I don’t even need to use Ring of Peace anymore, 1 Chi Torpedo and it drops before they can catch up to me to hit me again.

What would you propose the fun be that dps won’t accept tanks having? If it’s about damage, if tanks do dps damage, every M+ comp would just run 4 tanks and a healer, if that.

If they bring back the original loot bags of old that we used to get (ie the ones with gold, pets, mounts, etc), then I may tank more.

Maybe.

The bags used to make up for the dbags one encounters, in rando groups. /shrug

well ya making tanking fun would be the best solution, except, it is hard and the devs will not spend time designing anything that takes them more than 5 mins to come up with…

I suggested rewards instead because it is the easiest to implement.

this.

tanks doing damage? NO CANT HAVE THAT
tanks participating in pvp? NOPE GET OUT
tanks cheesing for extra damage? STOP IT STOP IT RIGHT NOW

It would also be nice if the tank loot tables weren’t loaded up with DPS trinkets - especially BAD DPS trinkets - and other trash.

Pain Smith’s tanking loot table had a first weapon that only procs when you’re behind your target. On the TANK loot table.

Every tank wants the Hakkar tanking trinket from De Other Side, but it’s on the same table as 2 DPS trinkets clogging it up and dropping instead.

If we want a DPS trinket, we’ll switch to a DPS loot spec, thanks.

Oh, but the GOOD DPS trinket, like Phial from Plaguefall? Nah, not on the tanking loot table.

I think they’re on a long-term campaign to create an artificial tank shortage, which they think will result in millions of surplus dps with no tanks joining guilds where they will find there aren’t extra tanks for them.

This is how they support guilds.

If the community wants more tanks, then stop treating them like garbage.

Tanking already has many advantages. One QoL they could put in is easier threat management.

Can we remove taunts from hunter & warlock pets, at least, since even that would be nice? SO frustrating to be trying to tank a rare in Zereth Mortis and move it out of the crap on the ground and somebody’s pet taunts it and parks it in the crap, or they spam-taunt the boss spinning it around all over the place so its AOE cleave is hitting everybody.

People still complain about it though lol

Blizzard has a tendency to listen to some of the strangest complaints.
