I’m trying to get uncrushable, but I don’t know the percentage miss has. Would anybody mind helping me out? My defense is 494 with a 16.02% dodge chance, 16.52% parry chance, and a 14.95% block chance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i thought 494 was the def cap
It is for crits.
%needed= Base 5% miss + bonus miss from defense + dodge % + parry % + block %
Thanks for the fast response. I got it now.
490 for raid bosses, 485 for Heroics. Raid bosses are the only things that can crush you.
Having higher than the def cap is fine, just means you have more room to play around with gear to start getting expertise/hit cap.
Remember, Blizzard doesn’t actually care about partial numbers.
They do, it just doesn’t show on the character sheet and you get the difference split on the receiving end of combat. For example, when you hit a boss with some kind of fixed damage skill, like the old Vanilla Swipe, the boss Armor would reduce the hit but it wouldn’t fall on a perfect whole number (even though this is what we see). Instead, you get two values that when averaged end up right at the real number you actually calculate.
If the ability is supposed to hit for 100.1 you’ll see hits of 100 and 101, but you’ll see 100’s show up 90% of the time and 101’s show up 10% of the time. So partials matter, but in a somewhat opaque way.
It’s miss chance, youll have to use a gear calculator to find that exact value because it does change enough to care.
There is a weak aura that does the work for you.
Just search for uncrushable or crush cap when browsing the WA’s
490 defense for uncrittable and 102.4% for uncrushable.
Hit 103% avoidance and you won’t be crittable or crushable.
Because the only remaining attacks will be: Miss, Dodge, Parry, Block. And blocked attacks cannot crit.
HOWEVER! Miss, Dodge, Parry, and presumably Block all depend on what the attacker’s Weapon Skills is vs your Defense skill. - That is to say the Miss, Dodge, Parry, and Block that comes from Defense; for sure. I’m not sure if Parry (from Parry Rating) uses the same Weapon Skill vs Defense Skill formula or not; assume it does.
So while you may have 103% avoidance vs, say, a lvl 70 mob. A lvl 73 mob will likely drop (behind the scenes) that 103 to 100 or lower.
This is why tanks typically go the ‘defense route’ of getting “Def capped”, which is something like 490 or 500. Because at that level even a lvl 73 (aka Boss Level) mob will not have enough Weapon Skill to bring you into Crushing Blow range.
Special Note: While in TBC-era, Resilience can be used to become uncrittable. However, you can still be crushed.
