Is it a prepaid phone? Who is the service with? There are some numbers that are not allowed to use SMS protect because of the way they are set up by the provider, there is nothing that Blizzard is really able to do about it unfortunately.

Do you have a prepaid or contract plan with this phone?

Cell phones with prepaid plans may not work with the SMS Protect service.

e. Post first and then go browsing, young troll. Post first...

Who is your provider?
Blizz uses a list of numbers in order to support their SMS program. If your number happened to be used by a pre-paid plan in the past (not necessarily by you, but even by a previous owner of that number) then it's possible that it is flagged as one that can't be used by Blizzard's SMS program.

Unfortunately, there's no work-around for that. It simply means you can't use SMS with that particular number at this time.

Did you recently transfer your number from another carrier? Regardless, your number is flagged and only your current carrier can assist.
canadian carrier - telus. it's been my number for 8 years.

I don't know if they'll give this sort of information as some sort of privacy clause, but are you able to inquire with them whether that number was originally yours?
Is it a flip phone? It doesn't work with those.
You are welcome to pop in a ticket and ask this be looked into further, but if the system is refusing it, may not be a ton we can do.

Might try Live Chat on this one, once they open.

I have Fongo for low cost texting in Canada and I had the same problem. I ended up using the Authenticator app.

The authenticator app and SMS protect are two totally different things.

As far as protecting your account, the authenticator is the way to go. SMS protect allows you to receive texts when your password is changed or when trying to remove your authenticator, but doesn't specifically add a layer of security to protect logging into your account.

Fongo numbers are considered pre-paid and not post paid, most likely why that doesn't work.
