Add [spec:#] back in for macros

Im not sure when the [spec:#] conditional was added, but with the advent of dual spec and introducing DK to classic, it sure would be nice to have.

It feels really dumb to call this patch “3.4” when it’s missing so many features from the original wrath…

This doesnt really work pre-cata, since their is a LOT of hybridization that occurs in the wotlk talent model.

This works post cata because you are forced to spend X talent points in a spec OR your spec is what defines your available abilities and talents once you choose it (MoP onwards).

I could be wrong but i dont think there is a great way to determine builds when players can freely spend talent points between any tree.

It could very easily be defined by whichever tree has the most points.

I dont see your argument. Spec:# is defined by which spec you have active, not what you consider your spec to be. e.g. spec:1 is y our primary spec. can be anything. But in the UI it is shown as “primary”. spec:2 is your secondary spec. can be anything. But in the UI it shows as your “secondary” spec.

Yep. We just mean 1 - Primary Talents or 2 - Secondary Talents.

Wotlk DID have the ability to write things like
/cast [spec:2] Frost Strike; Scourge Strike

That way when you swapped back and forth between frost and unholy, you’d be certain the right skill was on your bar. There’s not room for enough macros to make two sets, and I like having them because I use mouseovers (kicks, grips, dispels, heals) or when melee, a /startattack line.

There was also /usetalents [spec:1] 2; 1
to have an easy button on your bars to swap.

Honestly a lot of macro functionality is not there that should definitely have been by WOTLK.

I still cannot cast some mouseover heals on lowbie allys because it cannot downrank in a macro.

A /cast 14 should operate the trinket just fine, yet it does not and /use 14 must be used instead.

And reminder / request for:
/usetalents
/equipset
[spec]

Just logged back in to set up my bars for WotLK after a long hiatus, and the omission of [spec:#] in macros is actually insane without the addition of entire new ability sets on spec swap that came in Cataclysm, or adding substantially more character-specific macro slots.

Swapping between Disc and Shadow as a Priest is doable thanks to stance-related automatic bar swaps (thanks addons!), but I still need to put Shadowform on my bars instead of just nesting it behind a [spec:#,stance:0] macro on any of my damage skills.

#showtooltip [spec:1]Smite;Mind Flay
/cast [spec:2,stance:0]Shadow Form
/cast [spec:1,combat,nogroup] Inner Focus
/cast [spec:1]Smite; [nochanneling] Mind Flay

This is a very basic macro I simply cannot use that worked just fine in the original WotLK, and since I only get 18 character specific ones, it would be nice to have this in a single one without dipping into the general pool.

Exactly. Dual spec on multiple characters becomes too much to also occupy General macros.

I guess if they can’t figure it out, doubling the amount of Character macros would at least help, because actionbars do flip when you swap specs.

Friends, I think it’s in!
Go check!

It does look like it’s working now! I tested /cast [spec:1] Molten Armor; [spec:2] Frost Armor with my Mage, changing between the two specs. No problems.
