Title speaks for itself. You already have the framework for a successful and enjoyed Solo-Q in Retail. There’s simply no reason or excuse for not doing the same for Cata, other than laziness or unwillingness to expand resources for your players. For many of us, this is our favorite PvP expansion, as class design feels (for the most part) so flushed out and versatile.
Would be such a welcome addition to the game, for both Arena and RBGs.
The only issue with solo Q is that pvp class balance is admittedly bad on classic, whereas on retail every class/spec is glad viable.
I don’t think that’s justification to not introduce it, but it would need tweaking. I would suggest a flat -20% damage done in solo Q 3s matches to make lower MMR games more fun/challenging for healers, since healers will always be the bottleneck to getting matches. You could remove this aura after a certain MMR or whatever.
Additionally, add a flat 15% dampening to 2s and increase it by 1% for every minute after 2 minutes.
I agree retail has done a good job ensuring almost every class/spec is viable. Albeit, this was primarily done through homogenization, although that’s a different topic.
That said, on retail the best specs are still massively gravitated towards, even on Solo-Shuffle, and I imagine that will be the same in Classic Cata.
Honestly, I wish instead of a numberical rating in Solo-Shuffle, they had simply added tier ladders that you progressed from, as in Combatant > Challenger > Rival > etc. These ranks would be specifically placed only against other people playing the same spec as you. In this way, if you played something OP like a Sub Rogue or Feral Druid, your ranking would be competing only against others playing those same specs. This would sort of ruin fotm players, while encouraging diverse, lesser played specs. Idk. Just a thought.
I do like the “training wheels” type aura. Kind of a novel and interesting idea. At least I hadn’t heard of that.
As to 2s, they 100% need to add something. Brackets just ruined, so agree with you on that.
That’s just ineptitude. It’s the lazy way, just give everybody everything. Presto balance. It’s because their philosophy is to release the product, and then do as little work afterwards as possible. No re-tuning on a regular basis, never playing the game themselves, not responding to feedback. They do a chunk of work here and there and go into hibernation for 6 months, presumably working on something else. Compare it to some other games, they nerf this item cd by 5% one week, increase this champion’s base magic resist by 8 next week etc, constantly evolving, constantly improving. Here they just give excuses like we don’t have the framework, we can’t do this or that.
Honestly, I agree with you, but I don’t think there needs to be a massive discussion about homogenization. I think there’s enough viable classes and specs in Cata that Solo-Q would still work quite well.
+1 Cata needs Solo Q now more than ever, now that SoD P4 is coming the chances of Cata losing players are very likely and it will be tougher for players to find teammates
Solo Q would be the most popular mode, then the sweatlords would cry that no one is playing group mode. In reality the majority of people playing arena are the people who already learned it.
I tried to learn arena in OG Cata, went through many different players telling them I was new to arena, they raged anyway and didn’t want to help me learn.
I discovered MOBA’s and never came back to WOW, got my PVP fix in those games.
(side Note* WOW BG players should play some MOBA’s to learn how to be better at BG’s)
Solo Q with rank would defiantly help more people like me try to learn arena and eventually find a group.
