more like a Bee movie

Never understood the bandwagon opinion that the modern WoW graphics look like “Pixar” or “Disney.”

Some of the models out of BfA looked like they came from a horror game:

Gorged out throat. Lacerations all over the body, etc. I just don’t see the hate with the modern graphics. That graphics department for years has been carrying the WoW team. Go ride around the updated Arathi Highlands:

I won’t disagree with you on that. You do know what words mean. <3

soulless highlands

Yeah a rhinestone.

Its got more to do with the animation than the character models. All of the modern animations are overly “bouncy” and look way to cartoonish. I literally feel like a gummi bear watching my character run on retail.

Its got nothing to do with a bandwagon either.

Lol, okay that was good - the rhinestone comment

Yeah, I agree with that.

The modern models can use all the old animations though. They did for most of WoD until the Legion pre-patch completely revamped attack animations, etc. They could, could implement the modern models on a toggle while continuing to use the old animations.

It’s all moot though, they’re not going to do it.

I never liked the new models so happy to keep the classic ones

Hot take, but this dude is right. Cataclysm was a graphical update as well as a world update. The older models stood out against the new world because they were lower poly count models. That’s why they all got updated eventually.

New models would stand out against the lower polycount world of WotLK just as badly as the old ones stood out against the post-WotLK revamped world. It’d be an eyesore.

No, they can stop at wrath. Everything after is garbage.

I’d like a toggle at least.

The old Tauren models aren’t great at all.

It’s funny to see people thinking that wow had some sort of diablo aethetic though, if you want diablo go play diablo. WoW has never had a gritty or dark aethetic.

Retail awaits you.

When the new models were added there was an option to stick to the old models. Either option only affected your game so I don’t see why this couldn’t be done in classic - considering it was literally a thing in the retail client already. I’m not sure why the ended up removing the option, but I preferred the old models and I don’t see what’s the harm in letting people use the new models.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Graphics in wow were always behind other video games, but the Hanna barbera cartoon style was more relatable and less offending to your sense of how it should look and was one of the things that people liked about it. Ever watched cgi and the whole time thinking this looks so detailed but still looks fake. It becomes a distraction and can really bug some people to the point of discomfort.

Perception is a funny thing, virtually portray violence and gore to the point of it being indistinguishable from real life would make most people uncomfortable associating it with the permanance of death, but killing a blocky cartoon is a different story as our society has been socially conditioned to accept cartoons are not real and that they don’t really die so im not really doing something bad.

retail tauren are horrifically bad. the teeth…oh man
actually i fired up retail when i got classic and all the races look pretty bad imo.

I disagree 100%. Retail character models look ‘smoother’ but they overall look worse. Also, they completely ruined melee and casting animations.
