Why do people call this a bug? It is why we left retail. This ia CRZ/Phasing/Sharding. Call it whatever you want. They are all just synonyms. It seems to me that they are trying to make transitions as seemless as possible so people wont notice what they are doing in the background. Blizz is getting caught red handed doing exactly what they said they wouldnt do. And some of you have been succesfully gaslighted into believing this whole farce. At first it was, no phasing. And then it was some phasing. And now it’s phasing until the game dies down. I mean, given the hype, it might not dry down like some people think it will. Then it will become, " we need to keep in ‘layering’ to keep the servers stable." I honestly believe that they will keep the layering system in even after they say they have gotten rid of it. But that’s just me being a pessimist.
The way I understand it layering and sharding are basically the same thing, except layering is server specific. So it’s entirely possible for you to layer back and forth from zone to zone. IE: You go from low pop zone to a high pop zone and youre going to layer in and out as much as you swap.
At the end of the day layering is just there to smooth out congestion within the server. The point is that while you might not see every player on your server you’re not going to see other servers and it’ll go away after time (say after the first month or so).

This same thing happened to me in Ironforge. In fact, channel 1 was full of chat throughout for me to that point. When I entered IF channel 1 chat died, completely , and the place was almost empty. AH was completely empty other than the three NPC’s, and so forth. Trade chat was nonstop, but when I filtered that out, it was dead silence.
I exited IF and channel 1 was still dead. I went back to IF and asked about this in channel 2, and someone invited me to a group. I could then see Channel 1 chat. When exiting IF I continued to see Channel 1 while of course channel 2 died off. This continued after leaving the group.
I thought maybe that was working as intended, since I’ve never played a non-sharded WoW. However, if it is working as intended it’s completely silly…
Layering will kill classic if they keep it but lets hope its only for a smooth launch then they get rid of it.
