Because shareholders aren’t that bright at times and are probably just seeing this as a potential sign of a bad future monetarily speaking.
Stocks drop and raise all the time. Love it when gamers who hardly even know how a checking account works try and extrapolate something from a gaming company’s stock price.
Hopefully they #pulltheripcord
Is that really true though or is it really good for us short term good for the shareholder longer term? If they were to release on time that would be great for a speculator because it would denote consistency which is something that can be gauged and traded on, regardless of the state of the game on release that quarter. Of course the NEXT quarter when the player base moved solidly away because the game is near to unplayable the investor is gonna lose his mind. So it really doesn’t make a difference to a long term investor if the game is released on time but it would make a huge difference to the short term speculator if the ship date slipped and it would make a huge difference to the long haul investor if the released game cost the company more money to fix than it raked in.
No… It just means that there will be no lasting effect.
Because they waited to long to plan this delay. People took off work, they have no regard for there customers in that sense. The issues were known for months and they waited till they were on the last possible moment to pull the plug on the expansion.
How to: stock market: the thread: the game: the movie
Lots of things dropped today on news of the president getting covid to the jobs report.
Many factors played with this doubt it was just the delay of shadowlands.
I never hold individual stocks for long periods of time.
I wouldn’t read too much into it. Stocks are down across the board due to the President testing positive for Covid. This not meant to be a political statement, anytime a possible political upheaval such president’s health/life is on the line volatility happens in the stock market.
Stocks fluctuate wildly. Single day drops usually don’t really matter because of investors making kneejerk reactions to news.
Basically the stock will probably be back to where it was fairly soon. lol

Entire market is dropping due to the president getting COVID-19; it’s not just Activision.
While globally that may be true unless the percentages line up pretty tightly then you have to look beyond market technical factors and analyse the fundamental factors of a given stock in order to determine if perhaps a coincidental event masks a true fundamental problem with the stock.
Technical factors such as Trumps contracting SARS-COV-2 a month out from an election may cause markets to drop globally but individual stocks may rise despite that technical factor because of news from that company for instance. A $0.03 cents per share beat on a dividend even on a bad day overall might cause a stock to be a winner that day. Or News of a cure for a virus might make the stockmarket skyrocket but the fundamental factors of an individual stock say news of a late shipping date might cause that stock to tank.

I never hold individual stocks for long periods of time.
Because you do not does not mean that others do not. Every time you sell a stock you are liable to report any profit on that sale. Depending on how long you have held that stock will determine how much tax you owe on that sale. Hold it for 359 days and you owe Capital Gains. Hold it for 362 days and you only owe ordinary income tax. Big difference between a straight 30% (capital gains) and say 20% (ordinary income). Holding on to a stock for a long period of time can be very healthy for your portfolio. Then again if you always pick losers instead of winners well you might be safer dumping those stocks rapidly.
My long term investment are besides my 401K are index funds. My individual stock picks are more of a short term, I have spare cash on hand sort of thing.
Short term a delay sucks. Long term it pays out due to kept customers and retained product loyalty.
Plus MANY stocks fell due to the rona news.

Stocks fluctuate.
Generally speaking short term losses happen. Long term figures are far more important.
In the last month their stock value has decreased from $83.45 to $78.70.
When you look at year to date though? $58.65 to that $78.70.
So, how do you think the company is doing?
The entire stock market took a beat down last month I lost about $3,000 and have just broke even this week. The markets down today because of people panic-selling about Trump getting covid. I own a good chunk of Activision stocks I bought for dirty cheap when it dropped to $55.
If the stock drops but we have a better Shadowlands launch then whatever.

why is the stock dropping?
because they’re delaying sales and people that only care about money generally don’t like that.

why is the stock dropping?
A short term drop is acceptable if it means a long term increase.
I get the sentiment you’re trying to make but that’s not how stocks work buddy
