That’s true. They could just be saying that for PR, but even as a big company whatever resources you invest on one project you could invest it on another one. Blizzard could’ve made Diablo Immortal a PC game and advertised that it’ll also be playable on mobile, but they focused on making it mobile first and foremost, with no plans to provide it for the PC playerbase, which indicates that they didn’t find it profitable to create this game for that market.
Diablo 4 is probably somewhere in the brewery when they mentioned they’re working on multiple projects, and they could’ve been delaying it because they want it to meet some high standard, but they could also be delaying it simply because it’s low priority so its development is slow. And if it is low priority, I can see the financial justification for that.
Ok to be honest I’m not even referring to your post with what im saying. I’m referring to all the uneducated posts who clearly haven’t looked farther than the latest spew out of a streamer, headline or whatever and treat it as fact.
Actually it is, because as Blizzard themselves said when Destiny 2 appeared on the launcher, it’s there because Blizzard offered to put it there. Same with Black Ops 4. It’s there because Blizzard wanted to put it there.
Why force gamers to download yet another client to buy games, when there is already a very successful client with its own games offering a space on theirs?
This part of Conorn’s post highlights a misunderstanding I’m seeing around a few places.
Blizzard did not merge with Activision.
Activision Publishing had it’s own parent company called Activision Inc. Activision Inc merged with Vivendi games and simply put Blizzard in the name of the new company in honor of how great a money maker Blizzard was at the time.
They DID NOT merge with Activision.
PS also that CFO was from the Activision Blizzard side of things.
The Activision Blizzard CFO went to Netflix.
The Blizzard Entertainment CFO, who previously worked for Activision, went to Square. (the financial company)
And also not necessarily an indication of anything at all. Executive headhunting happens all the time and isn’t always tied to how well or poorly the company they’re coming from is performing.
Amrita Ahuja , the former Blizzard CFO was from Activision Blizzard not Activision. She used to be senior VP of investor relations and you would of heard on quite a few investor conference call as she would of been the one moderating the call.
People are continuing to confuse “Activision Blizzard” with “Activision Publishing”. … One publishes and makes games … the other has a CEO called Bobby Kotick.
Oh no, I wasn’t referring to him. I was referring to the one that went to Square (the 2nd one).
Written Shorthand is…Activision.
…what?
The CFO I was referring to became the CFO of the Blizzard side of Activision-Blizzard after a role within the Activision side of Activision-Blizzard…then she left for a job at Square after the CFO of the Activision side left/was sacked (I read that whole situation as either a “You can’t Quit! You’re Fired!” or a “You can’t fire me! I Quit!”)
Unfortunately those are now the times we live in. Streamer makes another video on how Blizzard is evil, game is evil, streamer sees those types of videos get the most views and banks on it so they continue to fuel the fire that the rest of the mob continues to push forward. Then goes on to do more videos slanted with that bias because the people who wanted to watch the company or game burn can go watch another video on it and imagine it as fact.
No, Bluspacecow is right. Amrita Ahuja (which is the woman you’re referring to) worked for Activision Blizzard, not Activision. I just looked at her Linkedin profile to make sure and sure enough she worked for 8 years at Activision Blizzard (not Activision) first as the Vice President for Strategy and Development (2 years, 3 months) then as the Vice President for Financial Operations (2 years, 6 months) before finishing up her role in Activision Blizzard as the Senior Vice President of Investor Relations (3 years, 5 months).
She was from the Activision Blizzard holding company. She used to be senior VP and was the moderator on a few investor conference calls. You would of heard her at the start of the call introducing the participants of the conference call.
She wasn’t from Activision Publishing.
Also you keep refering to a “Activision” side and a “Blizzard” side of the Activision Blizzard company. This is untrue - Activision Blizzard has subsidries one of whom is Activision Publishing , as well as Blizzard Entertainment , King , Major League gaming and Activision Studios.
But she didn’t START in Blizzard Entertainment. That is what I’m trying to say.
For precedent as to how I view the operations of Activision-Blizzard, I present the case of Zang Ba. For most of Zang Ba’s career, he had almost total autonomous rule over the Qing and Xu Prefectures despite them acting as part of the overall state that would later be known as Cao Wei. He got to keep that job until his later years because he was good at it and inspired the loyalty of those around him.
