Are there any reasons now in 2023 for not making gold an account wide thing? It’s all your gold, it would just be a quality of life improvement. Other MMOs do it.
The argument I could see being made is maybe restrict it to server wide gold because of server economies, but with the auction house being regional now would that even matter? As someone who plays a lot of alts and finds myself mailing gold around, this would be a massively welcome improvement.
I honestly thought the reagent bank back when it was announced was going to be account wide, so it was actually a little disappointing to find out it was basically a reagent bag/slot for your bank.
The fix to all of this is to just stop with the needing other players to make your own private guild.
We can cheat the system easily by firing up a few extra accounts one month or getting other players to make a few new lowbies to join and quit.
Its just like the Chromie time thing. If we can cheat around it, just open it up for crisco sake.
With the guild bank you characters can all get to the gold that are in the guild.
They do it this way and the dont have come up with something new.
We already have guilds in game.
Account wide things sound great, however they come with a cost of destroying your Characters self-identity. So much was taken away at the start of Cata because so much was made account wide. Sure, it was more convenient but everything just became a TOON not an actual character. Everything just becomes so disposable and holds no self-worth.
Yet all my alts can share the same gold pile so long as I mail them back and forth.
Making it server wide just cuts out the middle man.
Account wide . . . then we’d have people selling tmog on RP servers and then easily using that gold on other servers, which takes the economy away from one server and brings it to another. You can already do this, but it involves the complication of a server transfer which costs either real life money or a token or two.
only if gold cap was combined would the change to account wide gold be reasonable, if still sever bound. but… if it was not. that would be a massive nerf to the amount of gold an account could hold.
as is, you can still try silly things like trying to turn one gold into millions using only the AH. or having the character function on its own merit.
they current system is fine, the inconvenience of needing to mail it to alts is only that. an inconvenience. the account wide combining would destroy those kinds of personal challenge game play.
other things let characters to have an “allowance” from the main Character and managing that so as to not over commit gold to any one alt. its easier to manage spending as well if you fund an alt via wow token. you would know when you spent too much or have an idea of the value in conversion.
if its all combined, how would you know how much you spend on each character over time?
minor things but i dont think its worth changing they system for. dont fix what isnt broken.
With doing cross faction all that has gone out the window. They need to start looking at it as the person not the character and put account wide everything into the game.
