Account suspension, Automation, doesn't seem fair

I’d like to know why I was banned so severely for a conversation I had either in officer or whisper chat with my friend, we swear and banter with each other all the time. When questioned about whether he had reported me when referencing the chat transcript that blizzard provided me, he said he did not and would never do that. So is my ban based off of people possibly reporting me for spam when advertising a guild in LFG chat? Is it fair to assume an automated system looked for a random conversation of me with my friend and doled me out a week ban based of the fact it found a swear in chat? Pulling a 5 day old conversation without even a warning to issue an entire week ban when I’m supposed to be leading our Naxx 25 group today in a couple hours.

This ban for the conversation cited also comes 5 days after the transcript supplied to me took place. It just doesn’t make sense, and feels like automation. Also, let’s put that all aside and pretend it was just and fair to give me a ban. I have no past history or infractions on my account which I’ve had since I was 13 being banned for anything of the sort, why not a week mute to begin with, or a day ban?

this is what got you in trouble. LFG is not the place to advertise anything but groups looking to fill. You need to post your guild in trade and only trade.

I was never made aware that this is such a serious offense, especially considering every single other guild on the server does it, I thought it was standard practice.

Why would the transcript cited not then include this advertising as the reason for the ban?

You must mean this is how I got mass reported, then the automated banning system did it’s work looking for anything else to link it to, pulled a swear, in a personal dm, and gave me a ban for it.

you can put in an appeal, just be aware that it’s not to plead your case just to have another set of eyes look at your case.

I’ve put in an appeal, I’m only here as I’m trying to get it looked at sooner, I don’t even know if blizzard has a decent customer support team anymore, I’m sure funding for that sort of thing has gone down since Activision acquired blizzard. I remember being able to call WoW customer support back in the day. Now they have automated banning like new world.

No one on the forums doesn’t handle appeal tickets, or tickets in general, as it isn’t a means to bypass the ticket system.

there is no auto banning and posting here will not speed up your ticket. And you are not banned just suspended there is a difference.

Bans and suspensions - two different things - are applied by a GM AFTER an investigation. Hence an investigation that usually takes days to weeks.
A ban hammer does not just immediately fall on you from some automated sky.

Suspension, ban, all the same, I can’t play the game that I’m still somehow paying to not play.

that was not a “auto ban” it was a squelch which is automated but the silence is applied by a GM after review of the reports.

bans are permanent and a suspension has an end date.

For very specific inquiries, which people ignored and abused their phone services to the point of them replacing it with the callback service. It was never for penalty appeals however.

This is highly problematic. Imagine that your group wants to farm a zone but opposing faction members are farming that mob as well. What do you do? Hop on a new character and mass-report until the system boots them from their account for 7+ days. Enemy player in a battleground kicking a bit too much butt? Same thing.

There’s reasons that a lot of mmorpgs DON’T have a system like this in place.

Did you watch that video? It was a literal test to see if it’s true with instant results.

Gonna be frank: that means jack and nothing as anyone and everyone can say what they want if it means folks with agenda about something will believe it as it’d support their own view. Even if it’s make little sense to anything else.

Sorry for the confusion, Kiter, but this has nothing to do with any whispers or officer chat you may have had. The system shows you a sample of chat from the report, usually about 5 lines of it from a given period. Just because there are whisper and guild lines there, doesn’t mean that is the reason for the penalty.

As you inferred and from what I can see, the folks on your realm feel you are little overzealous with your LFM messages and spam the LFG channel.

That isn’t entirely true. You have a silence from September of 2019. It would be that history that escalated the penalty.

I’m sorry, Kiter, but at the others explained, there is no way to circumvent the normal queue times. You will need to wait for your appeal to be addressed.

As this is not the appropriate place to discuss account actions I’ll be closing this one out.
