While I wait for a ticket response, I wanted to look in to the forums to see if this has happened to anyone else the last few days because I am very confused.
I think this is my first offense, I don’t know if something in the past beyond a compromised account at one point when my computer itself had been stolen. Which wasn’t a fun time.
Anyways, the only thing I can think of that may have gotten flagged was I was fishing for a long period of time trying to get a drop to start a questline that would take a long time, so I would just put a movie on or a long running show on another monitor and click on my bobber when I heard the movement and I macro’d the cast on to one of my mouse buttons so I wouldn’t have to use my keyboard. If I had to get up to pee I’d just pester my roommate to click the mouse for me when they saw the thing wiggle around. I’d do this for hours and hours, and even try to type in guild chat during casts (which was sometimes a race when I type a lot.)
I can understand if this may seem a certain way, but for me it was just hyperfixating on doing the task and finding the thing. I was more than happy to put in the time to find it. I found it on some other characters so I could use it to hit the rare for a transmog (that isn’t sellable anyways) and using alts also with the thing would help me get it unlocked.
The ban is only for six months and not permanent (thank goodness for that) but it’s still a long time and I’m afraid of what could have triggered this and how I could avoid doing it again in the future.
Just in case it was something I didn’t do, I changed my password and made sure my authenticator was functioning properly.
Please Blizz CS, even if it can’t be appealed, I have to know what I can do so this doesn’t happen again.
It sounds like you filed an appeal which of course is the correct action. The SFAs won’t be able to tell you exactly what caused the flag against your account.
However assuming you actually didn’t purposely do any form of botting I’ll mention a few things to look out for, so it doesn’t happen again in the future.
No automation, I’m talking about software being used for macros for your mouse and keyboard. The rules is that a single click or press must equal to only a single action.
Also, be mindful of software on your PC that is used for work at home situations. These have been known to cause issues for others.
I know this isn’t alot but it is something to start with. I wish you the best of luck in your appeal.
Depending on how you did this, this could be the issue. That is to say, if the macro is able to do more then one action for you - it click the bobber and loots it for you, then I’m not sure what stands out to me.
No, you don’t get actioned for doing something for a long time. Not sure why this always comes up, but as long as you are playing the character, you are allowed to play for 3 weeks straight, if you desire.
That said…
Don’t do this. This is considered account sharing, and explicitly against the rules. This is not why you were actioned, but just a tip for the future.
These are usually for the software you have running on your system while playing the game, or for multiboxing automation. For software, even programs that have legitimate uses for other games or perhaps for your job, are not allowed to be running while playing WoW. For multiboxing, there can be ZERO streamlining. Even something that seemingly minor, like hovering a mouse cursor to activate a window, is streamlining and will cause account actions.
A Blue poster might be able to give you a small hint, but they aren’t going to tell you. It’s one of those things you have to figure out on your own.
It’s only the side buttons on my mouse, but it’s just one action per button, which are to activate the fishing skill on my bar, then just left click when the thing moves. I don’t think that counts for automation.
For the future, thank you for letting me know. That one is easily fixable!
It’s really early for this post, but I want to thank you quick commenters for being insightful. Been stressed and scared I could lose more or something else could happen, but having things spelled out is helping a lot.
My advice is only generic information. Far too many times has the advice that is given here just turn into a argument of semantics between the people giving advice and the ones receiving it.
I am not in anyway saying that is what you are doing I’m just explaining that I’m being very generic about the situation.
No automation, make sure you have no mouse wigglers or anything else similar on your PC, Some software that is work related causes problems with Warden.
If it is just that the mouse button is mapped as a keybind for the fishing cast, I believe that is fine. If you used the macro software that many gaming mouses can do, that would be an issue, as is anything that automatically performs an action. If those types of automation tools are running while you are in WoW, that can be enough to have your account actioned.
That said, the unfortunate truth is that they won’t say what triggered their detection tools specifically. That is the most valuable information than the people who make illicit tools could possibly acquire.
