Account suspended for name violation

Hello,

As the title states, I just got hit with a 24hr suspension recently for a “name violation”, I attempted to appeal this but was met with the generic automatic response and 20+hrs of radio silence, my in game name is Zero, with an alt code on the ò. Has anyone been through this before, and if so, is it safe to rename my char the same name, seeing as there is no reasonable reason why the automated ban system flagged me other than report abuse.

Thanks.

That is ill-advised and could only result in even stiffer penalties should Blizzard deem your name not appropriate for the game.

Here is an interaction with a Blizzard Support Forum Agent (SFA) concerning another player’s choice of names and to just reuse names.

Every apeal is handled by a real person template yes automated no. You can apeal till they tell you otherwise. If the apeals the penalties will stack and double.

Was it the zero toon or a different toon.

The name of the toon in question was Zerò, I was engaging in wpvp, and a player of the opposite faction advertised in the area to report me for killing him, a few minutes after that, I was disconnected mid-fight and slapped with the suspension, under the reason of “Name violation”, sounds pretty automated to me.

things don’t work that fast. The report that got you the account action was from earlier as it takes time for the report to move up in the system.

I don’t have a single char that has anything close to an offensive name, even if you were mighty soft with it all (Not including chars that haven’t been logged onto in over 12yrs), and again, this ban occurred moments after a player advertised for my report, I’m sorry, but it hard to believe there isn’t an automated system.

It takes more time than that for Blizzard to investigate reports. It could have been something you did hours, days, or even weeks before and may be associated with another character on your account or even another version of the game.

All you can do is appeal. Just wait on that.

An appeal is all you can do.

Also just to touch on somthing some people aren’t always aware of. I don’t know what realm you are on but RP realms tend to have stricter name requirements

Yeah, hopefully I don’t have to endure weeks of radio silence like some. That is a good point, but I reside on Frostmourne OCE, which is considered a “Normal” server.

I wouldn’t let this go because you did nothing wrong. Seems like you had the unfortunate luck to get a GM that didn’t check your name because there’s no way “Zero” breaks any rules.

I would fight tooth and nail to get this mark removed from your account because if you get reported again, they do take into account past infractions.

Great point, thank you, I have noticed there is a decent level of blue activity on these forums, would love a response from one of them.

Hm. Any possibility it was a pet on the character, or a guild or arena team name?

Ban names with special characters

o.O

Those haven’t been against the rules for at least the last decade if not longer. There’s no reason for special characters to be banned either.

I thought name violations weren’t only for “offensive” names but other things like titles such as “Captain” and real world people and such. Would it be possible that using names designated as numbers is also included?

Titles and ranks are blocked, to some degree - so trying to name your toon after such won’t allow it. Real world names, copyrighted and such, should already be blocked, to a degree as a lot of folks have common names like Michelle, James, etc. More for one of a kind names, like Oprah Winfrey, Star Fox, Pikachu, etc.

If you mean typing out a toon name as “1990” and the like, can’t be done as only letters can only be used.

Was this character by chance on an RP server?

The OP said it was not. It was on a normal server. Even on an RP server I could easily come up with a reason for an name like “zero” that would be non-immersion breaking.

That is an interesting theory… I know we can’t use numbers in a name because the system won’t take them, but did not think spelling them out was against the rules.

I am really curious what a Blue might have to say about this one. Zero does not seem like a rule violation that I can think of.

What about your battletag? If you’ve done plunderstorm, your btag is what’s visible and reportable. Just a thought!
