I got an email yesterday stating that my account was being closed due to ‘hacking’ (my main account). I have honestly no idea WTF ‘hacking’ in this game even equals. TBH I am guilty of using curseforge addons but I wouldn’t know how to hack lmao.
Additionally, if I was going to hack I’d be doing it on a throwaway account - not the one with my retail mains on
.
I was not given an explanation by Blizz nor was I given a date that this supposedly happened. Pretty weak response given the years I’d put into this account/severity of the outcome.
If I was botting, gold selling, or griefing it would be a suspension and revert of gold/levels - wtf does an account to do get a permanent closure on its first ‘offense’? I’d love to know LOL
Sadly this forum will not be able to provide much more information beyond the email you received, as it is mainly player discussion only, not a means to contact customer service.
If you have not already, you would have to put in an appeal.

Low-key wouldn’t be mad if they banned me for shilling xxfiv on the forums lol. That’s honestly all I can think of hahahaha
Botting and gold selling would more than likely land you an account closure, not a suspension.
As for “griefing”, that’s not an actionable term in WoW. It would have to be something that actually was specific and violated the rules.
It would also be extremely rare to receive an in-game action for a simple forum violation. Those tend to just end up in a silence on the forums.
Hopefully you have a ticket in to appeal. That will be looked at by a separate set of eyes and the account action will either be upheld or turned over.

Selling gold I can 100% support banning. As well as botting.
I reported, to Blizz, unusual IP request and code requests to my email (attached screenshots of my email account with these requests coming up), as evidence of potential hacking/login attempts from overseas but nothing came from that. ohwell
Blizzard goes by their logs, not third-party information. If you believe your account may have been compromised, include that in the appeal.

I don’t know what is happening. People were confused. My warrior gold and honor got taken away. That was not good. My guild too that is from my mage.
What? Your stuff got taken away?
Yes. They hacked in the account. people are confused.
When i was doing Wintergrasp, i was hacked. Not happy with it.
Blizzard does not remove honor unless the honor was gained via exploitative means or cheating. They also remove ill gotten gold.
If your account was compromised the hackers would strip everything on it, sell the gold, and use it to advertise until it gets banned.
If you were compromised you will need to put in a ticket to Blizzard. First though, you need to figure out how they got your email/password for your account. Malware? Phishing scam in game? Phishing email? Website you went to? Sharing information?
Here is the article and resources on account compromise https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/9852

Thanks. We are not sure whats going on. This has to be resolved soon.
Did you actually get banned or did you just receive the e-mail? If you can still play the game, then the e-mail was probably a phishing attempt.

Yes it was. They frame me for nothing.

Nah 100% closure of account. No suspension, temp ban, anything. Just a lol ‘closed’.
I did ask them to sus the IP addressed that this apparent behaviour was coming from and to see that it doesn’t match my usual (only) login address but… might be a bit complex for Blizzard to do such complex investigating

Seeing where you’re accessing their game from is extremely easy for Blizz. We’ve seen many, many times here in the CS forums where Blizz employees have been able to confirm that access was from a strange location or when access has been from the normal location too.
And yes, when an account warrants a closure, they don’t first do a suspension, they can and will move right to a ban when the situation warrants it. This can be done for both positive and negative reasons.
For example, if your account is hacked and they see malicious access, they will close the account to prevent further damage and access until the account holder can clear up the hack, clean their system, secure their computer/email/etc.
Alternatively, when they detect certain violations from the normal access point, they can then too ban the account to prevent further abuse etc.
Not accusing you of either here, just helping to explain why Blizz might lock down an account.
