after being on these forms for the last few days I’m pretty convinced that the average forum goer wants wow to be a little more than Candy crush.
they don’t want to do anything that’s even a little bit difrent and learning something new is so far beyond unacceptable that they would rather waste their days in here complaining than playing the game.

I’m in the “just don’t like it” camp, and I’ve heard MANY times that I need to “git gut” or “learn it” or “get more comfortable with it”. That’s really really not the case. I just don’t like it–I don’t find it fun, and I find it works against how I play the game.
I have always mounted up to move relatively short distances to save time, and now I can’t do that without having to wait around for charges (yes, I have all the glyphs). This is not about “learning” how to use DR–it’s about the mechanic interfering with how I have always chosen to play the game. I just want to get to where I’m going, do the “thing” I set out to do and move on. I don’t want to wait for a cooldown on charges so I can actually travel.
That’s not even talking about the mechanical things that glyphs can’t fix:
- can’t strafe (I don’t care that it’s a “big dragon” and "not realistic to strafe… I just want to strafe. period)
- wide turning radius, you can’t turn on a dime (again, I don’t care that it’s “more realistic”… if I want to turn, I want to turn quickly)
- using your Vigor charges to move around faster feels great, but having to run around on the ground waiting for the cooldown feels AWFUL. It slows your movement, and stops you from doing what you set out to do
- if I want to land, I want to LAND. I don’t want to soar and try to hit my landing target
- If you dismount while moving forward, you fall STRAIGHT DOWN… really really annoying. Normal flying mounts throw you forwards.
- when I’m flying to World Quests, I want to stop in the air and HOVER so I can figure out what I"m doing. I don’t want to soar and look around for somewhere safe to land first. DR gets in the way
- Hovering in the world is super useful if you need to AFK in a hostile area… DR can’t do that
- It uses the action bars. I like to dismount by hitting my attacks to pull mobs. I hate clicking, and my key binds are already full. I don’t have room for more, so now I have to take out some of my attacks to use DR instead
- I very strongly dislike how imprecise movement is due to the turning radius and in general how it moves. There’s no pixel precision or “nudging” to get the right spot like regular mounts.
That said, there are some good things:
- it’s way faster
- barrelling forward at 1300%+ speeds does feel pretty epic
- being able to superhero slam the ground to damage mobs is handy (although I wish it could be set to dismount you automatically)
- skill does account for something: if you’re better at it, you can go faster
Again, Dragon Riding is really really NOT hard. It’s very simple to use… there are just problems with it. Travel really should NOT be on a cooldown. Remove the cooldown, or make it 5 second recharge on the ground and it’d be fine. I don’t want to wait 60 seconds on the ground for enough charges to make it over a mountain. It’s just punishing and annoying.
Ultimately: not everything needs to be a mini game.

Well that is what made WoW famous and why many of us left challenging games to come here when it launched.
These forums would explode if they had to play with old school style MMORPG design.
Went back to P99and was shocked how fun it was to sit in a camp, clear it, solo pull, sit heal up, pull again, rinse and repeat for hours. Now in WoW, people can’t even slow down enough to have travel just be travel and not a mini game.

I have an issue with neededing my left hand for controlling and my right hand for steering.
I need a third hand for the swoop and surge.
Are you able to clench different parts of your butt? We might have a solution based on recent chess world tourny drama.

Two short thrusts for surge and one deep thrust for swoop.
Standing desk recommended.

To be fair, I’m sure the necessities such as using a computer to purchase something or a phone to do some banking are pretty accessible. Gaming isn’t a necessity so it’s allowed to go a little crazy here and there.
I mean, after doing it, i dont see how people can think its hard, you literally take off aim yourself down a little bit and fly from one end of the map to the other.
Wow’s been stealing ideas and making them their own for 18 years now. This isn’t new.

Yep, every item in Blizzard history is basically taking an “okay idea” and making it perfect- and we love them for it. It’s amazing.
The only exception to this was a very happy accident during the development of Diablo 1 where they were trying to make a turn based isometric RPG like Baldurs Gate Shadows of Amn but in the process of programming combat, they discovered the ARPG genre.

Dragonriding is one of the few things that make me glad that Blizzard is in charge of things, because you know it will take them like a year and a half to change it to appease the whiners, so we’ll have a good long while of fun before it gets ruined.
They should fix the motion sickness probably and change literally nothing else about it. Dragonriding is great.
This is very helpful information.
If that feature doesn’t work. It creates problems. I have that setting enabled and I still get motion sick. I only use dragonriding when I must and when I get to where I am going I have to log out for a few minutes until the dizziness passes.
That’s my issue. Because my eyesight is failing it makes me dizzy. Am I saying take it out? NO! There are people who enjoy it. They should have their fun. But allow regular flying in Dragon Isles as well.
I think that people don’t realize that they need to get the blue glow in order to regen vigor.
Most of the posts I see complaining about the mechanics are about how they have to land all the time, which means that they aren’t reaching the speed to regen vigor.
or, we’re trying to move around faster than the vigor regenerates. DR is super super easy to use. the mechanics are dead simple.
however, even at 5 second recharge it’s pretty easy to run out. ascent > ascent > ascent > whirling surge > wait > ascent > ascent > aim up to get to the top of the mountain > lose altitude, vigor stops regenerating and now takes 15 seconds > now you have to land. it’s punishing, not fun.
that’s not to mention flying to a quest > “hey is that my mob? it’s red?” > now you’re past it and can’t see it, and you can’t stop > swing around very slowly bc the turn radius is super wide > slow down > lose altitude > stop regaining vigor > have to find somewhere to land
it’s not an L2P or “git gud” issue. it’s the mechanics of the flight GETTING IN THE WAY where regular flying does not.
I’ve experienced this too. Sometimes it can be almost too fast, and then I feel like I’m missing the zone (which is a shame because the zone design in DF is fantastic). I really like dragon riding though, and I don’t want it to go away, but I would appreciate some way to manually slow down. Something like a breaking ability. Being able to do a hover or a slow, “RP walk” flight would be nice too.
Also, for anyone browsing who doesn’t know: toggle Alternative Full Screen Effects in the Accessibility settings. This disables the wind effects around the edges of the screen and makes it much easier to see the environment while you’re flying.
that’s fair. I’m totally fine with the speed, but being unable to just stop like regular flying mounts makes the speed inconvenient. add full-stop and hover = problem solved
Absolutely agree.
Once I had the glyph/talent tree, I was able to do cross continent flights (close 9000 yds) with ease (and way faster than the flight paths).
