Exactly what the title says. Can’t find a solution, nothing works.
There are 2 types of this.
1 intel chips are allowed to draw too much power.
2 battle.net has not put a battle.net directory inside of the World of Warcraft folder, old install… Not properly updated.
Here is my story with this. When the prepatch was launched I started to notice random ACCESS_VIOLATION crashes. I didn’t think anything of them as I could just load back in and continue. But as the days went on these crashes started to happen more and more very quickly and exponentially to the point where it would crash upon loading from the character selection screen. I went through much testing and diagnostics from every “fix” I found on the forums. Some had minimal effect if any at all. I put a ticket in and received a randomly generated canned text response from blizzard which basically said it wasn’t them and to contract a repair technician.
Begrudgingly I did reach out to the company that I got my prebuilt from and started a ticket. We went through the general tests and fixes that I had done myself (reinstalling windows, and Blizzard, and making sure bios / drivers were updated. After no success they sent me a program that downloaded all of the computer Logs and took a couple days to review it.
After reviewing the files they got back with me saying they will RMA the CPU as they believed something was wrong. They sent a technician to replace the CPU (14900KF) and after the replacement I loaded WoW right away and immediately I was able to access the game for the first time in over a month. I said the true test will be after being in game for a while. It’s now been 2 days with no crashes. Which is an amazing feeling however I fear this may be the issues for some others who were experiencing the same thing I was.
Now I don’t believe EVERYONES situation is the same as mine and might be some other hardware / software / setting, but this was my story and solution to the system.
For those wondering I was not overclocking the CPU or using setting that would have pushed the CPU to the point of failure prior to this event happening. It just happened. Also the crashes were being experienced even after patch 11.0.5. Further, this even started spilling over in to Diablo 4 and would crash on start up / after playing.
Hope this information helps someone and I truly hope that this case isn’t the same for you.
I appreciate the in depth attention you gave my post. I can only hope an actual fix for this problem is found, rather than having to replace my cpu.
It depends on the current condition of your CPU and whether the incorrect specs Intel provided to manufacturers caused harm to it.
This problem happened again today, and a few times yesterday. Nothing I’ve found anywhere works. If it was my cpu then I would say I’d have more problems than just wow crashing.
I had no other issues with my computer. I didn’t crash in Windows nor did I notice any performance loss while navigating through desktop programs. ONLY when I loaded in to WoW, or, eventually Diablo 4. Again my circumstance my be different than yours however, I’ve not experienced one crash since I swapped to a new CPU.
I’m glad you were able to resolve the issue for yourself but it really doesn’t make sense that this would be a hardware issue. If it was hardware I would have more problems than specifically world of Warcraft crashing to desktop. Everyone with this issue states that they’re only getting errors while playing wow/blizzard games.
I have access violation errors too and the game crashes. WoW is the only game that this happens on. I have found no solution to the problem either. All my other games I play run perfectly fine with no issues so it must be this game. I play WoW classic too and haven’t crashed one time on classic so its the war within expansion that is causing the issue. There must be something wrong with retail WoW. There are quite a few people having access violation errors too.
You solved this with the CPU tuning utility, right?
You found the tuning utility solution?
I think I solved it since I used the tuning utility. I played a bit today and didn’t crash, so far so good.
I’ve found every “solution” that has been posted anywhere. My patience is thinning with this issue.
Look at the windows error reports at the end of your dxdaig report.
Also there is a log folder with text files for wow errors.
Open task manager and uncheck the first two boxes core 0 and 1 in Alility tab. As well as Administroator running battle.net
Remove any addon programs.
You didn’t mention the Intel tuning utility. It’s helping other people to adjust the CPU settings.
Didn’t work still crashing
Can you add a DxDiag here?
Click here to show/hide DxDiag report instructions
- Press Windows Key + R, then type DxDiag and press Enter.
- In the DxDiag window, click Save All Information.
- Name the file dxdiag and click Save.
After you have the report:
- Upload to Pastebin.com.
- Paste the link in your reply.
Note: If you have trouble posting the URL, highlight the link and click </> on the post editor toolbar.
Please note that there is no guarantee what’s causing your issue will be apparent from a DxDiag and you may need to do more investigating on your own or speak with a PC technician.
In the meantime, here’s what I recommend:
Click here for additional tech troubleshooting
- Check the Windows Reliability History or Event Viewer (system logs) for error alerts.
- Look for overheating components.
Can you tell us what they’re specifically tuning? I downloaded and ran the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, but there are soooooo many things to tune, that I’m afraid I don’t know what it is I need to look for.

Since this is specifically a problem Intel created, you may want to reach out to them for official word if that makes you more comfortable.
I detailed other things you can try here: Access Violation - #2 by Elocin-mugthol
This is no way an intel problem the blue post about intel processors was specifically for 13th and 14th gen processors which I don’t have. Also people who had those problematic processors were having problems with other games/programs not just specifically blizzard games. After the update on Tuesday I thought I was ok but I got the error again today. I’ve tried everything I could find just as I’ve stated plenty of times and I’m tired of seeing the same boring suggestions to fix this problem. There is 0 chance that my computer is causing this problem this is on blizzards side for sure.
Then why did you respond to my inquiry about using the Intel Tuning Utility this way?
If you mislead us about your troubleshooting or hardware, we won’t be able to help you in this forum.
Except you didn’t provide any diagnostic information when I requested it. Blizzard doesn’t review these anymore, so I offered to do so as a courtesy and maybe help you play again.
If you’re already convinced that this is only Blizzard’s fault while others can play without running into this, then we have probably reached the end of the troubleshooting I can offer you. Good luck resolving your issue.
