Access violation crashing

Common denominator in everyone’s experience with this problem is blizzard games. Either that or something coincidentally went wrong with multiple people’s computers simultaneously, suspiciously around the time of pre patch. The reason I replied to the tuning utility bit is because I underclocked my processor like the link you posted suggested and I still got the error multiple times.

You can play the blame game, but it won’t fix the issue. I’m going to excuse myself from this thread, best of luck.

I’ve been trying to use the Extreme Tuning Utility but it says “XTU is incompatible with Windows VBS” & “Your CPU/BIOS does not have Undervolt Protection support as a mitigation”.

Windows Compatibility Issues

Windows 10 or Intel 11th generation and earlier processors

For configurations with Intel 11th generation and earlier processors or those using Windows 10, Virtualization Based Security (VBS) and Windows features that cause VBS to run are not compatible with XTU. Users can check the Windows feature(s) causing the incompatibility or discontinue use of XTU and use BIOS overclocking features. Disabling Windows services or features may affect functionality and/or security of other applications.

My original post was a potential fix, but more of just a delay. The latest thing I am trying is to change the in-game settings. At the bottom of the graphics menu there are capatability settings. I have turned OFF: Optional GPU Features, Frame Overlaping, and Advanced Work Submit. Been good for just over an hour of keys now. Not sure if it’s fixed or the game giving me false confidence, lol.

I saw a post of yours saying that you haven’t seen this problem in all of your 15 years of playing the game. This implies that either A.) for 15 years no one’s computer has had any issue that might cause this or B.) something went wrong with an update. What changed in the last 15 years, did computers just now start having these problems? You don’t need to be a tech expert to make logical inferences. 15 years and no access violation problems ever then pre patch hit and coincidentally everyone’s computer broke? Come on…

I felt it necessary to conclude this thread with an update, so as to share what helped me. It may already be commonplace, but still, if for those wondering:

After doing said updates above and trying to tune things around. The last thing I tried was to disable Intel’s Speedstep from inside BIOS and I have never had a violation crash ever since.

It could have been by simply disabling Speedstep alone, or with all the updates done together, that finally has stopped this incessant crashing.
