This is a very good point! I think being asked for your I.D. for a game is going just a little too far. Even I would be a little uneasy at that-- not because I don’t trust Blizzard with my information, but just that I’m giving them my actual I.D. just so I can play in a virtual world.
How is proving your account is secure treating you like a criminal?
No it does not work even trying to post a general ‘Mor’geth’ raid? Can’t do it?
I’m really happy to see they finally implemented the mandatory Authenticator. It will help with bots, hacking, and stolen accounts.
Not when I am punished to add some code I don’t have to use it. NO this is a problem. I have a authenticator, but not what bliss wants! Yet they sold it. NO … I cannot believe I can’t create a simple group for Mor’geth… not sure how long I’ll be playing. But who cares… no one does.
shaming… maybe we do, maybe we don’t… but what biz is it of yours?
just don’t watch. I saw them too… I ignored them, FOR YEARS. BUT NOW I am the punished one. Punished for ‘spammers’… where are your papers!?
In my country, punishment is not distributed until a person is proven guilty of an act.
Crime investigated : account theft and botting and spamming
punishment: group finder abilities limited
Only those proven to be thieves and hackers and sellers should have the punishment implemented.
A more just system would be to use logs to determine if an account has been stolen (IP address change, report from original owner, change in play habit). The game has already removed the ability for low level character to use group finder, and more barriers can easily be set to turn off the endless flood of accounts selling from wowboost and arenapro and whatever else the sale websites are that spam constantly.
If the game only wants to cater to those with name brand phones and contracts and computer and whatever else, that is fine. Those people have more money and will be better customers in the long run. The more information you can get from your players, the better you can cater to them.
I just wanted to play the game like everyone else, but after being singled out and having privileges taken away for not owning the “cool, hip, name-brand stuff” the unfairness of life has permeated into the game world.
I play wow as a distraction and for fun, not to feel poor and subpar.
((The sellers are still filling up my group finder so I don’t believe this worked out as intended anyways))
billions…? lol i would sell my account in a heartbeat for a billion dollars… i would sell it for a million… i would sell it for 100k… lolololol where are you getting that number from?
once again, Blizzard punishes the masses because they can’t get rid of a few rotten apples. like the penalty for getting vote kicked from an lfr because someone thought it would be funny to kick someone.
Went back to retail today and was kind of excited went to do a Mythic plus dungeon and seen this and quickly went back to classic haha
People are coming up with random crazy stuff because they learned from sketchy YouTubers and major News Networks, that if you repeat crap too long, too loud, the crowd which is looking for an excuse to rage will eventually attune to their song.
Had an authenticator before and I had horrid expectances with it even got lock out of my account by some hackers at one point. Told myself I would never use it again and now it’s required to even do a main part of the in game content haha plus I don’t even have a cell phone ATM so retail will have to be put on hold for me until this is resolved!
Dude you can get one these days for like 5 bucks and a burlap sack of rice.
There you go again assuming I am a male in real life…
Dude is a universal word, in the immortal words of “Ed” from the movie Good Burger
“I’m a dude, he’s a dude, she’s a dude, hey we’re all dudes!”
I would set up an authenticator if I could get the benefits without a cell phone; my understanding is that this is not possible. I don’t have a cell phone, and I don’t plan to get one. So I am “unauthenticated.”
Yesterday I tried to start a group for Chosen Champions wq in Maldraxxus. I clicked the “group finder” green eye next to the quest in my quest log, and I chose Start Group because there was no existing group.
I was unable to list the group. The title field did not autopopulate. I was unable to alter any of the fields for the group info, and all the fields were blank.
Shortly after, another player started a group for the quest and I joined it. So it worked out OK for me in this case.
If the purpose of requiring authentication is to prevent spam groups, it should let us create uncustomized groups based on world quests. There is no need to block this ability.
Have you filled out a bug report yet? What you described sounds like it isn’t working as they intended.
I figured a way to gain access to a group doing a world boss by just standing near enough to the area then opening the green eye and choosing premade/custom, then scrolling through the options. Found I could get invited easier that way than trying to find the group before arriving on the scene.
If you can’t use standard authentication practices on any digital account, you simply should not have it, and should endeavor to be able to authenticate. Single factor accounts should no longer be allowed to exist, because single factor is busted wide open from a technological standpoint. You want to go back to single factor anything, write angry letters to China and Russia and ask them to stop making supercompute clusters that can crack z 1024 bit password in a few nanoseconds. The password1234 era is gone, friends. Blizzard don’t care about people spamming LFG, it was just a low hanging fruit prod to get you to authenticate. They need you to authenticate because their support system is crapped up with account recovery requests on a scale that has never been seen.
