About the now mandatory Authenticator

i would really like to know how you got locked out of your own account with a AUTHENTICATOR ATTACHED. what exactly did you do? give them the code it issues?

then pay my phone bill seeing as blizzard only supports contract phones. this is essentially forcing an extra expense on players to be able to fully utilize the game.

Gonna sue your car manufacturer when you run out of gas? :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t have a contract phone with any company, mine is a Lifeline Phone with Assurance Wireless and it works for my authenticator…I pay nothing for it…yes its a cheap smartphone but it works.

I had one for over a year, Authenticator worked as it should, plus the number was valid so I could use it for SMS

Welp, for years it’s been “standard” to let people 2FA with an email address, or receiving a call at a home phone number (my bank does this), or using a physical authenticator. I just can’t keep up with the times anymore, because Blizzard has deemed all these 2FA methods obsolete and changed the standard to require a cell phone on a certain type of contract (budget-concious Cricket users need not apply).

I subscribe to WoW for pure pleasure-seeking purposes. If they make me jump through too many hoops, like getting a certain type of cell phone, I’ll decide it’s not worth it. Right now it’s just a couple features that don’t break the game for me, but if they require it just to log into the game, I’m out. I might use it as a sign it’s time for me to drop off the grid entirely. (I mean, I probably won’t really, because I’m a creature of habit and comfort, but I’ll participate less and less in “virtual” reality the more of a hassle it is for me.)

Well dickens… I did the same chosen champions Tuesday when the servers went live… groups were full so fast, I literally needed to start my own group…

10 seconds later, 4 invites my group delisted, before I could even look for custom fields to see what all the hubub is about.

Your claim that you couldn’t start a group is false.

Exactly right. Big companies just try to shoebox you into buying the products and services of their business ‘friends’. If you don’t want to buy contract phone service from overpriced companies, now you can no longer play WoW fully. It starts as little bits taken away (group finder) and might end up as more (chat channels). Not worth putting money into what is clearly predatory businesses.

Unfair=unfun

It’s a video game, and while it is a beautiful world to explore, the ‘real world’ should be kept separate so that all users can enjoy the same in-game luxuries. But no, clearly only real money matters.

I personally don’t have an authenticator problem. When Blizzard announced they were going to switch to an electronic method, I purchased a second manual authenticator fob (which I’ve yet to need).

My original one is still working just fine and I use it as necessary. When and if the battery on it runs out, I do have that second one I got way back when.

But I like having an authenticator requirement. Its used by my bank and has caught any number of attempts to log into my accounts. Very security minded if you ask me.

Well did the care manufacturer say you have to give them more information ‘AFTER’ you paid for and are driving the car? Really?

Dude, you don’t make any sense whatsoever…

what’s even more disgusting is all the white knights cheering this on as a good thing a sign of progress. while ignoring the fact it leaves everyone else out in the cold with no alternative. real progress would give you alternatives. this doesn’t.

You have alternatives.

You aren’t left out in the cold…

Stop being disingenuous and overly dramatic. It’s just custom text.

That change must have hit your bot farm hard, huh?

no you don’t you either use a contract phone or no sms for you. it DOES NOT WORK WITH ANY OTHER SETUP ANYMORE.

I have cricket…no contract…no problem with SMS.

It requires a number that has not been labeled as prepaid. Unfortunately, that means for some users that have a provider that also sells prepaid; they may not have a “valid” number.

That also means for players that use Cricket, for example, they may or may not be able to use the SMS system through Blizzard.

Same goes for other carriers. What service do you have? Have you contacted them to see if they could do anything (hopefully without charging you anything)?

Bit late to the thread, but…
