About the now mandatory Authenticator

I think you vastly overestimate the amount of people who don’t have a cell phone.

Estimates are 50% of the whole world have a smartphone, and that includes third world populations.

Most people who play wow probably have a phone

yeah I get a lot do not have a cell phone but a lot of the have tablets and you can it on a tablet also

Or just your pc with winauth, you do need a cell phone for sms protect though, which is also required

I live inner city, the homeless around here have cell phones. Albeit they are the free government phones, but they work too.

its like the Diablo phone game … not everyone will play since not everyone has a smart phone

Eh, I’ll be playing that on my PC like all my mobile games

“Don’t you people have phones??”

“I have a phone, yes. It’s a Landline.”

Actually, you can’t, the authenticator requires SMS protect to function now, so you have to have a contracted phone number and have push notifications enabled

well since Blizz doesn’t let you link more than one account to a mobile phone number, or even to a land line, they have constructed themselvs in to a player unfriendly place. 2021 is the year of Blizzard cutting off their nose to spite their face and 9.1.5 is the hacksaw.

It’s not that they’re making a mountain out of a molehill. That implies that their complaints are being made in good faith and they actually believe what they say. The reality is that they’re spammers trying to convince people to let them spam some more. Their complaints are bogus pretext for complaining about a successful policy change.

Update for those who said this is a necessary measure to prevent spam in LFG… It didn’t, spam is still alive and kicking. If only they did something more proactive, such as remove pay to win tokens. :persevere:

What makes you think removing the token would curb the spam?

This is just trash. Force me to take more time out of my day and force me to download an application that I just WONT download in order to enjoy the FULL GAME that I already paid for and have been paying for monthly is just heinous. Shame on you blizzard. Stop trying to push people into downloading things they don’t want or need.

Prior to this I didnt need an authenticator so I didnt update a new phone number when it changed 5 years ago because it never really mattered. Now I also got married and have a new last name. For me to get an authenticator requires a phone number change, so I have to send copies of my I.D. and change of name to Blizzard to authenticate myself to them to change my phone number. Even though I have access to the email account the entire time. At that point I can download a new app so I can authenticate to post custom lfg group titles for arena games. I’m playing a game… Feels like this is really hard for a game, no other game requires my id documentation of my last name changing.

Your comment isn’t made in good faith. I have been playing this game for over a decade. I have logged in from the same location for years. I have given blizzard my name, home and cell numbers, my address, bank information, and a copy of my state issued ID. I have tried to set up SMS messaging with blizzard. I have phone service that blizzard will not accept as valid. I should not need to spend $40-50 on verizon, tmobile, att, sprint or whatever other brand mobile is OK with blizzard just to play their game the same way I have been in the past. I have had the same cell number and service for over 4 years now, paying between $8-10 based on my usage. I am being treated as a spammer because I don’t like to waste money on frivolous things.
